Crew Leader - Illinois/Remote
Pay Rate: $25/hr. based on experience
Reports to: Eric Parnitzke, Regional Manager of Operations, Illinois
Job Description:
Responsible for managing construction projects and crew members on customer sites.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Hands-on direction and implementation of track, rail yard work, and other projects as assigned
- Determine materials needed and staff requirements for projects
- Will utilize company operating procedures and FRA rules, standards, and instructions to complete project work and to maximize asset utilization and control costs
- Oversee the work assigned to the crew, ensuring that it is completed in a safe and efficient manner
- Lead the on-boarding and training activities on new employees
- Other duties as assigned.
III. QUALIFICATIONS
The qualifications listed below represent the credentials necessary to perform the essential duties of this position. A. Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED; 5-7 years of experience in railroad track construction, 2+ years in a supervisory/management role highly preferred.
B. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of track structure, construction and maintenance, and identifying track defects
- Must be able to operate, and train others how to operate a backhoe and front-end loader
- Detail oriented
- Superior communication skills.
- Must be comfortable engaging in a variety of different communication mediums (verbal, non-verbal, and written) and being attuned to others through strong active listening skills.
- Must have the ability to work well with others as part of a team.
- Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently under minimal supervision.
C. Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
D. Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
E. Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with the typical problems that occur in rail car switching.
F. Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
Certification required if operating on track controlled by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
G. Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to operate control levers and reach with hands and arms. employee may be required to sit for to sit for extended periods. The employee must occasionally lift up to 75lbs and/or move heavy weights.
