Job Description
As the International Tax Manager at Hillenbrand, you will be responsible for managing the company’s complex international tax obligations and supporting strategic initiatives across global markets. Your role will involve applying technical expertise to ensure compliance, optimize tax positions, and improve operational processes. By delivering accurate tax reporting and strategic insights, you will directly contribute to Hillenbrand’s ability to expand its international footprint responsibly and efficiently, while upholding the company’s commitment to operational excellence and sustainable growth.
What You’ll Do:
Maintain and apply a comprehensive understanding of complex federal and international tax laws, accounting pronouncements, and their application to business operations.
Income Tax Compliance:
Manage the non-US jurisdiction tax compliance functions to ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of such compliance in accordance with existing tax regulations
Manage the domestic international tax compliance requirements
Manage the preparation and review of the international tax provision to return adjustments and the related required journal entries
Quarterly and annual Tax Provision:
Manage and review the GILTI, FDII and FTC computations pursuant to ASC 740
Manage and review the non-US jurisdiction quarterly world-wide effective tax rate pursuant to ASC 740
Analyze and report the discrete events impacting the quarterly tax provision
Manage review and documentation of the world-wide annual current and deferred tax calculations
Research and maintain tracking of legislative changes and the impact of each on effective tax rate
Manage and develop the analysis and documentation of the quarterly Uncertain Tax Positions (ASC740-10 (Formerly FIN48))
Transfer Pricing:
Manage documentation efforts
Monitor compliance with transfer pricing policies
Develop necessary adjustments to comply with the policies on an entity-by-entity basis
Tax Authority Audits and Inquiries:
Manage the federal tax authority audit requests pertaining to international tax issues
Develop appropriate technical and fact-based responses to audit requests
Research technical issues and develop appropriate technical memoranda supporting the company’s position
Critically analyze tax authority responses and assessments for technical, factual and mathematical accuracy
Tax planning:
Assist in developing and implementing the corporate tax strategy
Assist in developing, research and document complex international tax planning memoranda
Assist in developing and analyzing international tax posture and exposures related to current tax filing methodology
Assist in developing and implementing tax filing methodology in order to minimize exposures, including voluntary disclosure processes, communications with tax authorities, etc.
Operations Support:
Advise business units and other corporate functions on tax matters and policy
Assist in developing and implementing operational tax processes and technologies to improve functional efficiencies
Special Projects:
Assist in developing acquisition strategies for international targets
Support the due diligence process for mergers and acquisitions
Assist in the integration of acquired businesses
Perform other duties as may be assigned
Team:
Reporting to the International Tax Director and Vice President, Tax, you will serve as a key technical leader within the international tax function, collaborating across teams to drive compliance, enhance processes, and implement strategic initiatives. Your expertise will be instrumental in supporting Hillenbrand’s global growth by providing technical guidance on complex international tax matters, facilitating alignment on tax strategies, and coordinating efforts to ensure operational excellence and strategic success. Please note, this role does not have any direct reports.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from a college or university in Finance, Tax or Accounting; and a minimum of 5 years related corporate income taxation experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with an emphasis on taxation.
Corporate income and operational taxation, and ideally, multinational experience in a manufacturing environment with increasing levels of responsibility in the tax area.
Experience with international and federal tax planning, compliance, audit defense, and tax accounting (ASC 740).
Researching and documenting complex international tax issues; implementing tax savings strategies.
Be organized and able to efficiently manage project workloads from multiple sources
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA, JD or MST strongly preferred
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, advanced Excel knowledge preferred
Experience with JD Edwards, OneStream (or other equivalent ERP systems), SAGE FAS fixed asset systems, and OneSource, CCH and other equivalent tax technology is preferred
Preference for candidates in the Greater Cincinnati, OH region, or Kansas City, KS.
