Job Description

At Allstate, great things happen when our people work together to protect families and their belongings from life’s uncertainties. And for more than 90 years, our innovative drive has kept us a step ahead of our customers’ evolving needs. From advocating for seat belts, air bags and graduated driving laws, to being an industry leader in pricing sophistication, telematics, and, more recently, device and identity protection.

Job Description

Step into a role where your advocacy drives meaningful recoveries and impactful results!

As a Subrogation Trial Attorney, you’ll lead litigation efforts to pursue responsible third parties and recover losses on behalf of the Company. You’ll manage a dynamic caseload involving property damage, auto, commercial, and complex subrogation matters—guiding cases through investigation, negotiations, arbitrations, mediations, and trials.

Beyond litigation, you’ll advise internal business partners on recovery strategies, evaluate liability and damages, and collaborate closely with claims teams to maximize outcomes. Stay sharp by monitoring evolving laws and industry trends to strengthen our recovery efforts.

If you thrive on strategic advocacy, financial impact, and winning on the merits, this role puts you at the center of the action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle a primary caseload of subrogation matters, with a smaller portion of traditional insurance defense files.
  • Manage a high volume caseload efficiently, ensuring timely progress on all assigned files while maintaining accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Gather, evaluate, and organize case materials, including documents, evidence, and legal research, to support hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions.
  • Conduct legal research on applicable statutes, regulations, and case law, and prepare clear, concise research summaries and reports.
  • Draft high quality pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests/responses, and other legal filings with strong attention to legal strategy and detail.
  • Interview clients and witnesses, prepare summaries of their statements, and maintain comprehensive communication records.
  • Attend and participate in court hearings, depositions, mediations, and other legal proceedings; may independently represent the company or clients in routine matters.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and update the legal team on potential impacts to ongoing or future cases.
  • Participate in training, mentorship, and professional development programs to strengthen trial skills and gain exposure to more complex litigation.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the Pennsylvania State Bar.

Experience

  • 1+ years of litigation experience, within Subrogation, Insurance Defense, or related fields.
  • Proven ability to conduct thorough legal research and draft clear, well structured legal documents and correspondence.
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities, with skill in balancing multiple cases and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the discovery process, including document management, evidence handling, and case preparation.
  • Effective client communication skills, including interviewing, summarizing statements, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Solid understanding of legal ethics and professional responsibility standards.
  • Fundamental negotiation skills for settlement discussions and client interactions.
  • Travel ability to handle legal matters within local courts near your home location
  • Occasional travel may be required to counties outside the immediate region.
