Job Description
Role Description
The Director of Technology is an executive leader responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and management of the district’s technological ecosystem. This role balances high-level visionary leadership with hands-on oversight of hardware deployments, data integrity, and AI initiatives. You will ensure that MIPS’s "neighborhood school online" is supported by robust, secure, and cutting-edge digital tools while leading staff engagement and driving organizational improvement through advanced data analytics.

Strategic Planning & Data-Driven Improvement
- Develop and maintain a multi-year technology strategic plan that aligns with MIPS’s mission.
- Lead the design and evolution of district-wide dashboards.
- Establish frameworks for how the organization uses data.
- Serve as a core member of the Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Process (MICIP) team.

Technology Innovation & Trend Analysis
- Actively research and pilot latest technology trends.
- Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the district’s software stack.
- Serve as the district’s "Chief Innovation Officer."

Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Oversight
- Develop and monitor district-wide cybersecurity protocols.
- Ensure all operations comply with FERPA, COPPA, CIPA, and Michigan-specific student data privacy laws.
- Lead responses to security threats and conduct regular cybersecurity awareness training.

Logistical Oversight & Inventory Control
- Maintain a rigorous, up-to-date inventory of district Chromebooks and staff laptops.
- Provide high-level troubleshooting and support to staff, students, and families.

District-wide Collaboration & Initiatives
- Implement the “Student First” Customer Service Module.
- Oversee the technical rollout of all new district initiatives.
- Lead and mentor all members of the technology team.
Qualifications
- Must hold a Master’s Degree in Education Leadership, Educational Technology, Information Technology, or a closely related field or have relevant experience.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans, manage complex budgets, and lead large-scale software integrations.
- Expert-level knowledge of Google Workspace, SIS/LMS platforms, data visualization tools (e.g., Looker Studio, Tableau), and cybersecurity frameworks.
- Ability to lead collaboratively, manage coaching/disciplinary plans, and exhibit a resilient, student-centered mindset.
