E-Line Media

Games are fun. Games can enlighten and enhance understanding. Games can open your eyes to both new worlds and the one that is all around you. While there are individual titles that embrace this approach, there has never been a company built from the ground-up to publish a slate of commercial impact games that fire the imagination, catalyze curiosity, explore meaningful themes, and provide gateways to new perspectives. Originally founded in 2008, E-Line Media has always been interested in the pairing of great artistry and meaningful, relevant themes. We are applying this powerful formula to video games and this has led both to financial success but also recognized positive social impact. Want to work for a company that is actively trying to make a difference and change the world through video games and creative storytelling? We’d love to hear from you! E-Line Media values diverse perspectives and voices on our teams. We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic.

Job Description

UI Art Intern (Paid)

About the position:

E-Line Media is looking for an UI Art Intern (Paid) that focuses primarily on 2D user interface art and animation using Unreal to join one of our production teams working on a currently unannounced project (more details to be provided after signing an NDA).  As the UI Art Intern you will help our team achieve the vision of our game by creating compelling and clear interfaces for systemic gameplay. You will also be a contributor to the growth, culture, and ultimate success of the project and studio.  That last statement makes it seem pretty stressful, but we’re actually a rather low-key team.

Although E-Line’s headquarters are in Phoenix, the position and team are remote. The workload would be 20-40 hours per week (preferably full time, but we're flexible as it is an internship). It is 3 months in length, based on the candidate’s schedule. It is open to candidates from the US, Canada, Central, and South America (due to time zone restrictions).

As our UI Art Intern, you will...

  • Work closely with the team to create clear, stylized, in-game interface art that meets our aesthetic goals, maintains consistent direction, and supports the game's playability.
  • Create 2D art for icons, panels, and more diegetic interface art.
  • Work hand in hand with the lead designer on UX for complex systems.
  • Adopt and refine a visual aesthetic, while expanding it into unexplored areas.
  • Work with the Art team to research, collect, and create reference and inspirational material as necessary.

We’re looking for someone who has…

  • An online portfolio with high-quality, varied examples of 2D interface art. If you are a 2d or 3D generalist and have no examples of interface work in your portfolio, you will not be considered for the position.
  • A love of well designed game interfaces.
  • The ability to quickly deliver and iterate on concepts as needed by the team.
  • A strong understanding of fundamental artistic principles.
  • The ability to provide and receive critical feedback professionally.
  • Complete or near complete undergraduate college experience in an art or design related subject, completion of an intensive training program, or equivalent experience.

It’s a bonus if you…

  • Have experience with Unreal Engine and UMG.
  • Love the idea of bringing new voices, perspectives, and ideas into your work.
  • Enjoy working with a team that takes its craft seriously but its meetings less so.

Top Reasons to Work with Us

  • Make a good game that also does good out in the world.
  • Work alongside a collaborative team with years of video game industry experience, where your voice is heard and your work will be featured in a commercial video game.
  • A positive, healthy remote work environment with flexible hours. We promote a culture free from crunch.
