Role Description

This role involves coding and reviewing medical records for emergency department (ED) procedures.

  • Full Time ED Coder with 3+ years of experience in facility setting for a trauma level 1.
  • Experience with ED procedures, injections, and infusion is a plus.
  • Must have experience with EPIC and CAC 360.
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, within reason.

Under limited supervision, the Coder ER reviews medical records and performs coding on all diagnoses, procedures, DRG/APC, and charge codes.

  • Responsible for abstracting, coding, sequencing, and interpreting clinical information from various medical records.
  • Assigns correct principal and secondary diagnoses and procedure codes with attention to accurate sequencing.
  • Utilizes technical coding principles and DRG/APC reimbursement expertise.
  • Abstracts and codes pertinent medical data into multiple software programs and/or encoders.
  • Maintains compliance with external regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Extracts pertinent data from health records for reports and billing documents.
  • Identifies codes for reporting medical services and enters codes into various computer systems.
  • Tracks and documents productivity in specified systems, maintaining defined productivity levels.
  • Maintains a 95% quality rating.
  • Performs duties in compliance with Company’s policies and procedures, including HIPAA and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an AAPC or AHIMA-approved Coding Certificate Program.
  • A minimum of two to four years of current production coding experience in both acute care and profee.
  • Must have the following certificates and/or licenses: RHIA, RHIT, and/or CCS.
