About Nema Health

Nema Health is a survivor- and clinician-led virtual treatment program for PTSD and trauma. We are on a mission to help all trauma survivors find lasting peace & healing. Nema provides virtual, evidence-based treatment that helps people feel better faster—and stay better longer. We are committed to delivering care that’s accessible, trauma-specialized, and deeply patient-centered.

At Nema, we offer employees an unparalleled career opportunity: the chance to be part of a mission-driven company while shaping its future during a pivotal stage of growth. If you’re someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, values systems thinking, and cares deeply about expanding access to mental health care, you could be a great fit.

About the Role

Nema Health is seeking a Medical Director to provide clinical leadership across our trauma-focused treatment program. This is a full-time executive clinical role responsible for ensuring high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric care delivery while partnering closely with operations, therapy leadership, and executive teams to scale Nema’s model nationally. This role will report directly to Nema’s Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer.

The Medical Director will provide direct patient care, guide quality and safety initiatives, and shape the strategic direction of medication management within trauma-specialized care.

This role is ideal for a mission-driven psychiatrist who combines clinical expertise with a systems-level mindset and is energized by building and leading within a high-growth organization.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Oversight

  • Serve as the psychiatrist to the clinical team, ensuring the highest standards of trauma-informed, evidence-based psychiatric care
  • Provide clinical oversight and consultation across clinical services
  • Establish and maintain clinical protocols that support consistent, high-quality outcomes across states and programs
  • Support clinical risk management, safety planning, and escalation pathways for complex cases
  • Spend approximately ~40% of your time in direct patient care conducting evaluations, and ongoing medication management
  • Scale and develop the prescriber team as needed to meet organizational growth and patient demand
  • May provide one night or weekend day of clinical back-up phone coverage

Care Model & Program Development

  • Collaborate with therapy leadership to ensure integrated, coordinated treatment planning across psychiatry and psychotherapy
  • Contribute to the evolution of Nema’s trauma-focused care model
  • Support the Senior Clinical Director as needed in development of new clinical programming, workflows, and specialty pathways as Nema grows

Quality, Outcomes, and Clinical Operations

  • Champion measurement-based care and outcomes-driven protocols across the organization
  • Monitor clinical quality metrics and support continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, telehealth best practices, and organizational clinical policies
  • Own the development of data-informed root cause analysis frameworks, leveraging insights to improve clinical outcomes, provider performance, and care continuity

Strategic & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Support growth team efforts on driving national provider referrals
  • Represent Nema’s psychiatric vision internally and externally as the organization scales nationally

Qualifications

You’ll be a great fit if you are an:

  • MD or DO with completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency
  • Board certified in Psychiatry (or board eligible with timeline to certification)
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in at least one U.S. state (multi-state licensure strongly preferred)
  • Valid DEA registration
  • Significant experience in outpatient psychiatry and medication management.
  • Deep commitment to trauma-informed, patient-centered care
  • Familiarity with measurement-based care and outcomes-focused treatment models.
  • Strong operational mindset with ability to collaborate across clinical, operational, and executive teams.
  • Excellent communicator and culture-builder in interdisciplinary settings.

Why Join Nema

We’re a growing team of clinicians and operators united by a shared mission: to reduce suffering for people with PTSD and other trauma related disorders. As part of Nema, you’ll help build a company where both patients and employees can thrive.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation with an annual base starting at $240,000, to be determined based on your experience and qualifications
  • This role is also eligible for competitive equity, reflecting the impact and scope of the position at an early-stage, mission-driven company
  • Comprehensive benefits including healthcare, 401(k) with matching, and stipends for work-from-home productivity and continued education
  • Generous PTO and flexible work hours
  • Remote-first culture with supportive team norms
  • Inclusive, trauma-informed leadership
  • Opportunity to grow with a fast-moving, mission-driven company
