How you’ll make an impact in this role
- Precision Health Data Management: Directly impact the organization’s clinical and financial integrity by accurately abstracting patient data and assigning complex diagnostic and procedural codes (ICD, CPT, HCPCS) to ensure seamless claim processing.
- Collaborative Clinical Liaison: Act as a strategic partner to medical staff by proactively querying physicians to clarify documentation, ensuring that every patient record is an accurate, high-quality reflection of the care provided.
- Compliance & Educational Leadership: Serve as a subject matter expert by conducting sophisticated chart audits and providing essential education to associates and physicians on evolving coding guidelines and reimbursement requirements.
- Commitment to Ethical Excellence: Uphold the highest industry standards by adhering to AHIMA’s Ethical Coding guidelines, maintaining peak productivity and accuracy rates while staying at the forefront of regulatory changes.
What minimum requirements you’ll need
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
- One or more of the following required:
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credentialed from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Certified Outpatient Coding (COC) credentialed from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credentialed from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Medical Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credentialed from the Practice Management Institute (PMI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Coder obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Reg Health Info Admnstr credentialed from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Reg Health Info Tech credentialed from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Education:
- High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
- Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
What additional preferences we're seeking
- Must have surgical coding experience
- 3 years of professional coding experience in a clinic or facility setting
- CPC or CCS certifications preferred
