Role Description

Imagine being the architect of transformational literacy instruction within your assigned district or portfolio. As the Director of Implementation, Design, and Coaching for Science of Reading, you'll lead the charge in reimagining how secondary students engage with complex texts, strengthen their comprehension, and develop disciplinary literacy skills that prepare them for college, career, and life.

This is not a behind-the-scenes role—you'll be on the front lines, working directly with teachers, coaches, and leaders to translate evidence-based literacy research into classroom reality.

  • Own the full implementation lifecycle for adolescent literacy initiatives in grades 6–12, from strategic design through measurable impact.
  • Design cohesive professional learning experiences that shift instructional practice.
  • Deliver coaching that moves the needle on student outcomes.
  • Manage complex, multi-school projects with precision and clarity.
  • Serve as the primary content relationship owner for district partners.
  • Lead strategic conversations that matter and ensure alignment to district priorities and rigorous outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in education, instructional leadership, curriculum implementation, or district-level instructional support.
  • Demonstrated expertise in adolescent literacy (grades 6–12), including reading comprehension, disciplinary literacy, and writing instruction.
  • Proven experience designing professional learning aligned to secondary literacy standards and measurable instructional outcomes.
  • Track record of leading complex implementation efforts across multiple schools or at the district level.
  • Direct coaching experience with school or district leaders, with evidence of building capacity and driving instructional change.
  • Experience as a primary client or partner relationship owner within a district or multi-school context.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into actionable project plans with clear milestones and accountability for outcomes.
  • Experience managing and developing staff or team members, with responsibility for quality of execution and continuous improvement.
  • AI Fluency at the Practitioner level—actively using AI tools to improve work quality.
  • Ability to travel moderately for organizational retreats, programming, and professional development.

Requirements

  • Expertise in secondary literacy instruction across grades 6–12, including deep knowledge of reading comprehension, disciplinary literacy, writing instruction, and Science of Reading research and best practices.
  • Ability to build relationships and partnerships with district leaders and school-based educators.
  • Skill in translating strategy into action by breaking down complex priorities into clear project plans.
  • Experience designing professional learning experiences and coaching interactions that are coherent and rigorous.
  • Ability to leverage technology and tools—including AI—to enhance work quality and strengthen decision-making.

Benefits

  • Compensation: Base salary range is $103,649 to $140,231 per year, with a standard starting salary of $121,940.
  • 100% paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for individual employees.
  • 4% matching 401k plan, Flexible Spending Accounts for medical, childcare, and commuter expenses.
  • Time Off: Full-time staff accrue 22 days a year for the first three years, with additional days accrued after the third and sixth year.
  • 16 additional paid days off for various holidays, including three floating holidays.
