Job Description
Role Description
As an Underwriter for MotivHealth, you will be responsible for generating new business rate proposals across medical, pharmacy, and stop-loss products. You’ll evaluate large claimant impacts, conduct claims and risk analysis, and collaborate cross-functionally with teams in Sales, Clinical Services, Finance etc. You'll also play a central role in RFP responses, group renewals, and maintaining pricing accuracy.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to deepen your expertise in underwriting, work directly with brokers and clients, and grow your career with a forward-thinking leader in the healthcare industry. This is a remote role open to candidates residing in Texas, Arizona, or Colorado.
- Collaborate with Sales and Account Executives to prepare, respond to, and execute proposals for both prospective and renewing clients.
- Create accurate and timely rate proposals using internal underwriting models, ensuring alignment with business and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze group-level healthcare data including claims, premiums, and high-cost claimant experience.
- Evaluate credibility based on population size and predictive behavior; identify and troubleshoot potential data issues.
- Perform underwriting tasks related to stop-loss, ASO, medical, dental, vision, and pharmacy products.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations on group insurance arrangements to internal stakeholders.
- Support implementation processes by setting up and validating group structures, rates, and documentation.
- Support internal audits and participate in underwriting or cross-functional projects as needed.
Qualifications
- A degree in Business, Finance, Statistics, or a closely related field - or equivalent professional experience
- 3+ years of experience in underwriting in large group health insurance
- Understanding of health insurance plans i.e., fully insured, level-funded, ASO, and stop-loss.
- Basic knowledge of healthcare pricing, funding methods, and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).
- Proficient in Excel (VBA, Macros, Pivot Tables), Microsoft Office, and working with data.
- Great attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Clear and confident communication, both written and verbal.
- Innovator with a strong desire to challenge existing norms related to traditional healthcare and health insurance.
