Job Description
Role Description
This role involves leading our daily social presence, audience growth, and community engagement across all platforms.
- Write, schedule, and optimize daily posts across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X/Twitter, and emerging platforms like Threads, Bluesky, and Reddit
- Translate Out's journalism into compelling social formats that drive engagement, community trust, and traffic
- Produce Out's daily flagship newsletter
- Assist with producing social video from concept to publish, collaborating with Out's editorial stakeholders and Video Lead
- Collaborate with editors on rollout plans for tentpoles, covers, and special editorial packages
- Pitch social-first storytelling ideas that extend our reporting and mission
- Monitor LGBTQ+ news cycles and analytics to identify storytelling opportunities on and off platform
- Build creative assets for various social platforms when necessary
- Develop social calendars aligned with editorial plans, major cultural events, tentpoles, and sponsored campaigns
- Ensure talent, partners, and contributors are amplified appropriately across channels
Qualifications
- Demonstrated success growing social media and building community engagement for a newsroom or media publisher
- Strong editorial judgment and writing skills
- Fluency in social video formats and editing video for social media; Must be open to appearing on camera
- Familiarity with analytics tools and ability to translate insights into strategy
- Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable juggling multiple deadlines
- Self-starting, positive collaborator with a solutions-oriented mindset
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed
