Role Description

This role involves joining a healthcare team in a fully remote capacity as an Inpatient Coding Specialist.

  • Review inpatient medical records and assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes
  • Assign, sequence, validate, and edit DRGs and related abstracted data for inpatient encounters
  • Ensure coding accuracy in accordance with coding guidelines, compliance standards, and documentation requirements
  • Utilize complete medical record documentation to support accurate code and DRG assignment
  • Maintain or exceed established coding productivity and accuracy standards
  • Participate in coding quality reviews, audits, and discrepancy resolution

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of acute care hospital inpatient coding experience
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, DRG assignment, and POA indicators
  • Required certification: RHIT, RHIA, or CCS
  • Ability to meet productivity standards (1.8 charts per hour)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a remote environment

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management (HIM) or Health Information Technology (HIT)
  • Experience with coding audits and quality reviews
