Role Description

This role supports collaborations with leading AI teams focused on improving how conversational AI models reason about chemical mechanisms, quantitative analysis, and core principles across theoretical and applied chemistry.

  • Write and refine prompts to guide AI model behavior in chemistry contexts
  • Evaluate AI-generated responses to chemistry-related questions for scientific accuracy and mechanistic correctness
  • Verify chemical claims using domain expertise and authoritative public sources
  • Annotate responses by identifying strengths, inaccuracies, and conceptual gaps
  • Assess clarity, structure, and appropriateness of explanations for different audiences
  • Apply structured evaluation frameworks and benchmarking standards
  • Ensure responses align with expected scientific rigor and conversational guidelines

Qualifications

  • PhD in Chemistry or a closely related field
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Organic & Biological Chemistry
    • Inorganic & Materials Chemistry
    • Physical & Theoretical Chemistry
    • Analytical & Instrumental Chemistry
  • Experience working with large language models (LLMs)
  • Excellent scientific writing and explanation skills
  • Strong analytical reasoning and quantitative thinking
  • Ability to identify subtle mechanistic or conceptual issues in chemical explanations

Requirements

  • Experience with RLHF, model evaluation, or AI data annotation
  • Teaching or mentoring experience in chemistry
  • Familiarity with evaluation rubrics or structured review frameworks
  • Experience reviewing or editing scientific or academic writing

What Success Looks Like

  • Identifying inaccuracies or weak mechanistic reasoning in chemistry-related model outputs
  • Improving the rigor, clarity, and correctness of AI explanations
  • Producing consistent evaluation artifacts that strengthen model performance
  • Helping ensure AI systems provide reliable chemistry knowledge
