Role Description
The Financial Assistant III in Materials Science & Engineering (DMSE) will provide complex and diverse financial support for the day-to-day operations of faculty labs.
- Serve as primary departmental owner of the Financial Review and Control (FRC) process and administration related to DMSE Service centers
- Perform financial activities for general, fund, and research accounts for faculty and their labs
- Serve as a resource for faculty, postdocs, and students on financial transactions
- Provide backup support to financial staff during absences
- Exercise confidentiality of classified information based on office protocols
- Perform other administrative, financial, and clerical duties as necessary
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of five years of financial or accounting experience
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills
- Ability to set priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Attention to detail and excellent follow-through
- Strong accounting skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders with limited supervision
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
- Experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and university accounting and purchasing systems (preferred)
- Proficiency with MIT’s financial software, i.e., SAP and Cognos (preferred)
