Role Description

The Financial Assistant III in Materials Science & Engineering (DMSE) will provide complex and diverse financial support for the day-to-day operations of faculty labs.

  • Serve as primary departmental owner of the Financial Review and Control (FRC) process and administration related to DMSE Service centers
  • Perform financial activities for general, fund, and research accounts for faculty and their labs
  • Serve as a resource for faculty, postdocs, and students on financial transactions
  • Provide backup support to financial staff during absences
  • Exercise confidentiality of classified information based on office protocols
  • Perform other administrative, financial, and clerical duties as necessary

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of five years of financial or accounting experience
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Ability to set priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Attention to detail and excellent follow-through
  • Strong accounting skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders with limited supervision

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
  • Experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and university accounting and purchasing systems (preferred)
  • Proficiency with MIT’s financial software, i.e., SAP and Cognos (preferred)
