General Job Description
The Systematic Instructor will assist individuals with disabilities in various community employment settings by providing assistance with job training, social interactions, job modifications/assistive technology and other tasks necessary for the individual to maintain employment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise individual work performance and provide training as necessary
- Teach job tasks through example (hand-over-hand, verbal, written)
- Document individual progress in case- note form and provide information for six month progress reports
- Network with community members to develop relationships
- Participate in review and other meetings as directed
- Initiate fading efforts when deemed appropriate to promote independence
- Maintain safe working environment
- Maintain communication with all site supervisors to ensure client is meeting employer’s expectations
- Consult with Program Manager regarding program issues as appropriate
- Serve as a conduit between worker and employer to help develop relationship and rapport; build natural supports
- Serve as an advocate for employees with disabilities
- Act as a positive role model for employees with disabilities and staff
- Recommend accommodations for workers with disabilities as appropriate
- Assist in the achievement of program outcomes and individual goals
- Document individual achievement and progress
- Follow behavior management plans as necessary
- Effectively respond to conflicts, disruptive behavior and medical needs as appropriate
- Ensure that workers with disabilities are continually engaged in skill building activities
- Ensure that workers with disabilities have sufficient and adequate supplies to complete their work
- Assist and supervise individuals with disabilities as appropriate
- Assist with personal cares
- Assist with medication management
- Provide transportation as necessary
- Follow all company policies and procedures listed in the VUI Handbook
- Maintain confidentiality regarding company or personal information
- Cooperate fully with all other staff members to achieve VUI goals
- Attend and participate in employee performance reviews
- Attend all required training as directed
- Assume other duties as directed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable record
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to ‘think outside the box’ and provide recommendations for adaptations
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred
- Applicant must not have a history or conviction of any sexual crimes
