Job Description

The Account Director is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing a team of SEO Managers (Account Strategists) and ensuring the quality, consistency, and strategic integrity of work delivered across client accounts. This is not a purely hands-off management role, you will conduct regular audits of your team's work, step into client calls when senior strategic input is needed, and serve as the standard-setter for SEO excellence at MeanPug.

You will not manage every account day-to-day, but you will know what good looks like and hold your team to it.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Quality Control

  • Oversee a team of SEO Managers, providing direction, mentorship, and accountability
  • Conduct regular audits of account work to ensure strategic quality and consistency across the team
  • Identify gaps in execution or strategy and coach managers to correct course
  • Establish and maintain internal standards for SEO deliverables, reporting, and client communication
  • Run structured performance check-ins and support the professional development of your team

Client Strategy & Senior Support

  • Step into client calls to provide senior strategic perspective on complex accounts or escalations
  • Serve as a strategic resource when account managers need support navigating difficult client conversations
  • Partner with firm leadership on high-value accounts to communicate performance, strategy, and growth opportunities
  • Review and approve strategic recommendations before they reach clients when stakes are high

SEO Oversight

  • Stay current on Local SEO and Technical SEO best practices to effectively evaluate your team's work
  • Review technical audits, content strategies, and keyword frameworks produced by your managers
  • Troubleshoot complex SEO challenges that fall outside a manager's scope
  • Ensure Google Business Profile optimization, citation management, and local link building strategies are executed at a high level across accounts

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with development, content, and analytics teams to ensure seamless execution across disciplines
  • Contribute to agency-level strategy conversations and help shape how MeanPug delivers SEO at scale
  • Collaborate on process improvements, tooling, and workflow optimization for the SEO team

Job Requirements

  • Proven background in SEO with strong fluency in both Local SEO and Technical SEO
  • Experience managing or leading a team of SEO professionals
  • Strong client communication skills with the ability to present confidently to firm leadership
  • Ability to audit work critically and provide clear, actionable feedback
  • Comfortable operating at the intersection of strategy and oversight — not purely one or the other
  • Legal industry experience is a plus, but not required

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) plan with company matching
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Professional development opportunities
