Job Description
The Account Director is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing a team of SEO Managers (Account Strategists) and ensuring the quality, consistency, and strategic integrity of work delivered across client accounts. This is not a purely hands-off management role, you will conduct regular audits of your team's work, step into client calls when senior strategic input is needed, and serve as the standard-setter for SEO excellence at MeanPug.
You will not manage every account day-to-day, but you will know what good looks like and hold your team to it.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Quality Control
- Oversee a team of SEO Managers, providing direction, mentorship, and accountability
- Conduct regular audits of account work to ensure strategic quality and consistency across the team
- Identify gaps in execution or strategy and coach managers to correct course
- Establish and maintain internal standards for SEO deliverables, reporting, and client communication
- Run structured performance check-ins and support the professional development of your team
Client Strategy & Senior Support
- Step into client calls to provide senior strategic perspective on complex accounts or escalations
- Serve as a strategic resource when account managers need support navigating difficult client conversations
- Partner with firm leadership on high-value accounts to communicate performance, strategy, and growth opportunities
- Review and approve strategic recommendations before they reach clients when stakes are high
SEO Oversight
- Stay current on Local SEO and Technical SEO best practices to effectively evaluate your team's work
- Review technical audits, content strategies, and keyword frameworks produced by your managers
- Troubleshoot complex SEO challenges that fall outside a manager's scope
- Ensure Google Business Profile optimization, citation management, and local link building strategies are executed at a high level across accounts
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with development, content, and analytics teams to ensure seamless execution across disciplines
- Contribute to agency-level strategy conversations and help shape how MeanPug delivers SEO at scale
- Collaborate on process improvements, tooling, and workflow optimization for the SEO team
Job Requirements
- Proven background in SEO with strong fluency in both Local SEO and Technical SEO
- Experience managing or leading a team of SEO professionals
- Strong client communication skills with the ability to present confidently to firm leadership
- Ability to audit work critically and provide clear, actionable feedback
- Comfortable operating at the intersection of strategy and oversight — not purely one or the other
- Legal industry experience is a plus, but not required
