Role Description

As a Senior Digital Product Manager - Portal Experience Platform, you will define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for your products with full ownership and independence. You will use your deep business and technical expertise to guide case development, set technical direction, and manage products throughout their lifecycle. You will clearly articulate each product’s value proposition to partners and make informed recommendations about when a product should evolve, be replaced, or be retired.

You will typically manage multiple products or a highly complex product, building alignment across business, technical, and cross-functional partners. By using strong product management frameworks and a variety of research techniques, you will ensure your products deliver meaningful business outcomes and long-term value.

What you will do

  • Develop and communicate product strategy aligned to department goals, collaborating with customers, business partners, and technology teams while securing resources to maintain a healthy product lifecycle.
  • Apply Agile practices to deliver high-quality solutions, partner with the product owner to maintain a clear and measurable backlog, support delivery teams on protocols manage risks and dependencies, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the primary expert for your product domain, tailoring communication across audiences and formats, clearly conveying product vision and strategy, and acting as the main contact for vendors.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative data to measure impact, inform product decisions, assess opportunities, and conduct analyses such as return on investment, cost-benefit, and root-cause evaluations.
  • Mentor other product managers, champion user-centered product development, inspire cross-functional teams, stay current on industry trends, and model strong leadership behaviors.
  • Engage in ongoing learning, stay up to date with product management guidelines and participate in communities of practice.

Qualifications

  • You have a high school diploma (required) and a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent industry experience), along with 10–15 years of relevant work and at least 3 years in a highly regulated industry or specialized domain.
  • Thrive as a digital product management expert, especially in customer‑facing web and portal experiences.
  • Demonstrate deep proficiency in Identity and Access Management (IAM) and modern authentication standards such as SAML, OAuth, and OpenID Connect.
  • Have hands‑on experience with leading authentication and login platforms, including Okta, Azure AD, Ping, and Auth0.
  • Confidently design and optimize role‑based, tiered, and delegated access models that scale.
  • Bring awareness of MFA, adaptive authentication, and broader security/compliance considerations.
  • Excel with Agile practices, using work management tools such as Azure DevOps (ADO) or Jira; certifications like Scrum Product Owner or Scrum Master are a plus.
  • Lead with influence: providing strategic direction, mentoring with intention, and guiding partners at all levels through skilled negotiation, consensus‑building, and cross‑functional facilitation.
  • Excel at transforming ambiguity into clarity using advanced analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills—while building trust, fostering collaboration, and making sound decisions in complex environments.
  • Some minimal annual travel required (for people manager roles only).

Requirements

  • All newly hired people leaders with direct reports are required to complete a comprehensive leadership development program within their first year. This program includes both virtual and in-person training. The in-person sessions will take place at Symetra’s corporate headquarters in Bellevue, Washington.
  • Symetra covers all travel and accommodation expenses.
