Role Description

As an Inland Marine Executive Sales Underwriter, you will build and maintain relationships, drive written premium growth, and maintain renewal retention goals while delivering a high degree of customer satisfaction within your assigned territory with Berkley Fire and Marine Underwriters. You will apply Underwriting, Sales, and Distribution Management skills to manage overall book of business to achieve profitability goals.

We'll count on you for:

  • Communication:
    • Create detailed and organized documentation that clearly outlines underwriting decisions.
    • Demonstrate skills in account service, account management, cross-selling, business development, marketing strategy and positioning, negotiations, prospecting and qualifying, solution development, and competitive analysis.
  • Customer Focus & Team Work:
    • Possess consultative and relationship management skills needed to build strong relationships with agency partners to drive profitable submissions.
    • Prepare for and conduct effective agency review meetings that serve the goals of BFM and agent partners.
    • Collaborate with risk engineering professionals for the purpose of devising loss prevention programs and risk mitigation solutions.
  • Flexibility:
    • Operate with a continuous improvement mindset and offer suggestions for efficiencies.
    • Engage appropriate resources and internal and external stakeholders at the appropriate times to deliver the best possible outcome in line with company standards.
  • Delivering Results:
    • Assess intricate risks across various industries utilizing historical data and industry trends to make well-informed decisions and devise comprehensive risk management plans.
    • Interpret complex financial data, evaluate financial stability, and use financial insights to guide risk assessments and pricing strategies.
    • Develop complex policies that balance comprehensive coverage with accurate pricing, effectively utilizing endorsements and specialized coverage options.
    • Marry coverages offered with appropriately developed coverage terms, limits, and pricing based on a strong aptitude and understanding of all coverage components.
  • Technical & Job Excellence:
    • Demonstrate strong knowledge of loss prevention tactics.
    • Be knowledgeable in insurance law and regulations to ensure that policies meet legal requirements, and provide guidance on complex compliance issues.
  • Accountability:
    • Demonstrate full coordination of tasks.
    • Ensure policies meet legal requirements.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years inland marine insurance underwriting experience preferred.
  • Established retail agency relationships.
  • Advanced underwriting analysis, coverage, and pricing skills.
  • Excellent underwriting process and compliance skills; distribution management and sales acumen.
  • Ability to work both independently in an entrepreneurial environment and as a team member to solve problems and exchange information.
  • Ability to collaborate and build effective relationships.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interface with external agencies and insureds.
  • Ability to travel.
