Role Description
The Financial Aid Advisor supports online learners through the tuition and financial aid process. This remote role is responsible for guiding students through payment options, collecting documentation, and ensuring compliance with federal and institutional policies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional customer service, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to student success and retention. The work schedule for the position requires some weekend and evening hours.
Pay: $45,000/annually; $21.64 hourly
Essential Responsibilities:
- Advise students on tuition payment plans, financial aid options, and application procedures.
- Collaborate with internal departments (Admissions, Student Accounts, Registrar, Advising) to support student financial needs.
- In collaboration with the packaging specialist, collect and verify financial aid documentation to complete student files.
- Maintain accurate records and perform timely data entry in university systems.
- Counsel students with high balances or delinquent accounts to identify additional financing solutions.
- Respond promptly to student inquiries and follow up to ensure resolution.
- Participate in student registration and retention initiatives.
- Stay current with federal financial aid regulations and university policies.
- Attend training sessions and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
- Maintain a minimum of 80% “ready time” on inbound phone queue.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Possess a thorough understanding of Title IV funds, regulations, and eligibility requirements.
- Excellent phone, email, and face-to-face communication skills; maintains a positive attitude.
- Proven ability to work effectively with all members of the financial aid team to improve student experience.
- Excellent computer skills; proficient with Microsoft Office and university systems.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Energetic and goal-oriented; strong interest in working in a fast-paced environment that requires multi-tasking.
Requirements
- Must be in good standing on all federal student loans to access NSLDS.
- Individuals with default status on federal student loans are not eligible for this role.
- 40 hours per week, including some evening and weekend hours.
