Role Description
ASRC Federal is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to support enterprise infrastructure for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). This role will manage and maintain Linux systems supporting critical applications and database platforms while collaborating closely with infrastructure engineers and database administrators.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration and experience supporting Linux systems that host enterprise database platforms, including Oracle environments. This role will help bridge operational support between Linux system administration and database administration.
The position will also support hybrid infrastructure environments, including VMware virtualization and Microsoft Azure cloud platforms, with responsibilities that may include building Linux systems in Azure and assisting with infrastructure modernization efforts such as migrations from VMware to Azure.
This is a fully remote role supporting a distributed DoD enterprise environment and requires an active Secret Clearance.
Key Responsibilities

Linux System Administration
- Administer and maintain enterprise Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers
- Perform daily Linux administration tasks including patching, system maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
- Configure and maintain Linux services, user accounts, and system security
- Support system hardening and compliance with DoD security standards, including DISA STIGs
- Support IAVA/IAVM patch management and vulnerability remediation activities
- Monitor system performance and ensure operational stability of Linux-based services
- Perform data and file storage administration including backup and restoration monitoring

Oracle & DBA Collaboration
- Work closely with Oracle database administrators supporting Linux-based database environments

Assist DBAs with Linux operating system tasks including:
- Storage configuration
- File system management
- Performance tuning
- Kernel parameter adjustments for database workloads
- Support troubleshooting and operational coordination between Linux and database teams

Storage & LVM Management
- Manage Linux storage environments using Logical Volume Manager (LVM)
- Perform storage allocation, expansion, and optimization for application and database workloads
- Troubleshoot disk, filesystem, and storage-related issues

Virtualization & Cloud Infrastructure
- Manage Linux systems operating within VMware virtualization environments
- Deploy and administer Linux systems within Microsoft Azure
- Support hybrid infrastructure environments integrating on-premises and cloud-based systems
- Assist with infrastructure modernization efforts including migrating Linux workloads from VMware to Azure
- Support Linux integration within enterprise Active Directory environments

Automation & Infrastructure Improvement
- Support automated system builds and configuration management where applicable
- Assist with infrastructure improvement and operational efficiency initiatives
- Utilize automation tools where available, including Ansible or similar configuration management tools
- Support Kickstart or other automated Linux deployment methods when applicable
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree plus minimum 2 years of experience administering enterprise Linux environments
- Active Secret Clearance
- Strong experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or similar Linux distributions
- Experience managing Linux storage using Logical Volume Manager (LVM)
- Experience supporting Linux systems within VMware virtualization environments
- Experience deploying or administering Linux systems in Microsoft Azure
- Experience supporting Linux systems used by enterprise database platforms (Oracle preferred)
- Strong troubleshooting skills across Linux OS, storage, and networking
- Experience supporting system hardening and security compliance
- Ability to support DoD cybersecurity compliance requirements including STIG implementation and vulnerability remediation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Oracle database environments
- Experience assisting database administrators with Linux system administration tasks
- Experience with Ansible automation
- Experience with Kickstart or automated Linux build processes
- Experience supporting DoD or federal government environments
- Familiarity with DISA STIG security standards
- Experience with enterprise monitoring and operational documentation
Certifications
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) preferred for administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems
- Must meet DoD 8570/8140 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II or higher certification requirements, or obtain within 6 months of hire (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE, CySA+, CASP+, or equivalent)
- Experience supporting ACAS (Assured Compliance Assessment Solution) using Tenable for vulnerability scanning and remediation across Windows and Red Hat Linux environments strongly preferred
- Experience supporting DISA STIG compliance and system hardening in DoD environments is highly desirable
- Additional certifications such as VMware (VCP), Microsoft Azure, or Tenable / vulnerability management training are a plus
