Thumbtack helps millions of people confidently care for their homes.

Every day in every county of the U.S., people turn to Thumbtack to complete urgent repairs, seasonal maintenance and bigger improvements. We help homeowners know which projects to do, when to do them and who to hire from our growing community of 300,000 local service businesses. If making an impact inspires you, join us. Imagine what we’ll build together.

About the Brand & Comms Team

The Brand & Communications teams are the storytelling engine for Thumbtack building belief in who we are, what we do and the impact we make. Our team is the ‘emotional backbone’ of the company, comprised of strategists, designers, writers, producers, and both internal and external comms specialists. By combining strategic storytelling, bold creativity, and purposeful communication, we grow brand equity that strengthens demand, engagement, partnerships, and long-term trust–and we do it from the inside out.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Director, Creative Studio to lead the strategic direction, execution and the people who power Thumbtack’s Creative Studio, owning how the team’s creative ideas are translated into high-impact, multi-channel brand experiences at scale. This role sets the vision, priorities, and operating model for an integrated creative and production organization, translating company and brand strategy into clear team strategy and outcomes. As the senior leader accountable for creative quality, delivery performance, and operational excellence, this role ensures work is bold, on-brand, and delivered with rigor, consistency, and urgency. The Director, Creative Studio builds and evolves the people, systems, and culture required to deliver complex brand work end to end while adapting quickly to changing business needs. This is a leadership role designed for an integrated studio model, not a single-craft creative position.

What you'll do

  • Set and own the strategic direction for the Creative Studio, translating company and brand strategy into clear priorities, roadmaps, and measurable outcomes
  • Serve as the single point of accountability for creative quality, delivery performance, and operational excellence across the studio
  • Lead and evolve an integrated creative and production organization, ensuring ideas move seamlessly from concept through execution at scale
  • Build, hire, and develop a high-performing team of senior creatives, producers, and people leaders, growing future leaders and shaping org design
  • Design and continuously improve systems, workflows, and operating rhythms that enable speed, clarity, and repeatable excellence
  • Influence senior leaders across Brand, Marketing, Product, and Commercial teams to shape ambitious, executable ideas and drive alignment without formal authority
  • Foster a culture of accountability, belonging, candid feedback, and resilience while role modeling Thumbtack’s values and leading through change

In order to be successful, you must bring

  • 10+ years of experience in creative, production, and/or integrated studio or agency environments, with 4+ years of demonstrated people leadership experience
  • Experience leading and scaling multidisciplinary teams through clear structure and accountability
  • Proven track record owning end-to-end creative delivery–not just concept or design or copy direction
  • Deep understanding of production realities, timelines, budgets and executional complexity
  • Strong creative judgment across multiple disciplines and channels
  • Ability to balance creative ambition with operational discipline
  • Clear communicator and trusted partner who can align stakeholders and drive decisions

Expected salary ranges

  • For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, San Jose, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $221,000.00 - $286,000.00.
  • For candidates living in Austin, TX or Washington DC metros or in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Washington states, the expected salary range for the role is currently $198,900.00 - $257,400.00.
  • For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $187,900.00 - $243,100.00.

Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role

DigitalOcean

DigitalOcean is the Inference Cloud — a full-stack, production-ready cloud platform built to run AI applications with predictable performance, sustainable economics, and radically simpler operations at scale. We are built for teams turning AI into real products — not just training models. Our advantage is not fewer features, but fewer failure modes when operating AI at scale — combining minimal operational overhead, predictable cost efficiency, and a full-stack cloud that works as a system. Hyperscalers are broad by design. Neoclouds are infrastructure-first. DigitalOcean is inference-first — with a real cloud underneath. It combines inference-optimized compute, managed inference software, and integrated cloud capabilities that reduce operational burden for teams running real workloads. Inference is the foundation—not the boundary. Everything else builds on top of it.
