Job Description

• Lead and execute daily U.S. import operations, including transmission and review of entries and customs clearance activities for assigned business units. • Perform or review HTSUS classification, valuation, country of origin determination, and free trade or special program eligibility for imported materials and finished goods. • Review and validate import documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, entry summaries, PGA filings, licenses, and permits) to ensure accuracy and completeness. • Coordinate closely with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and carriers to resolve holds, exams, delivery issues, and documentation discrepancies in a timely manner. • Conduct periodic audits of import transactions, broker performance, and records to verify compliance with customs regulations and internal policies. • Monitor and interpret changes to U.S. import regulations (e.g., HTSUS updates, Section 301/232 tariffs, PGA rules), and update SOPs, work instructions, and training materials accordingly. • Analyze import operations KPIs (cycle time, holds, exams, entry error rates, duty spend) and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance compliance and efficiency. • Support trade compliance projects such as system implementations, broker transitions, classification harmonization, or duty optimization initiatives. • Maintain import records and documentation in accordance with CBP recordkeeping requirements and company policies. • Serve as an internal subject‑matter resource on U.S. import requirements for Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain, and Finance.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, international business, logistics, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive U.S. import operations experience in a customs brokerage, freight forwarding, or in-house corporate trade compliance environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in U.S. import regulations, including CBP requirements, HTSUS classification, valuation, and country of origin rules
  • Prior experience managing external customs brokers or freight forwarders
  • Proficiency with ACE portal reporting and import filing workflows, as well as experience with ERP platforms (e.g., Oracle or similar) and broker portals
  • Familiarity with CBP enforcement trends, penalties, prior disclosures, audits, and best practices for maintaining a robust import compliance program
  • Experience with Partner Government Agencies (e.g., TSCA, FDA, USDA, EPA, DOT), including understanding of permit, license, and documentation requirements
  • Understanding of recordkeeping requirements and retention practices for import documentation
  • Advanced MS Excel skills and strong proficiency in other MS Office applications for reporting and analysis
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Clear, confident communicator with the ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical guidance for non‑experts
  • Active U.S. Customs Broker License and/or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) credential
  • Familiarity with duty drawback and a manufacturing environment
