Job Description
Position Overview:
The Forensic Collection Specialist is responsible for the acquisition, preservation, and documentation of digital evidence in a legally defensible manner. You will work directly with internal teams, clients, and occasionally custodians to collect electronically stored information (ESI) from devices, email systems, cloud services, and enterprise data sources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct forensic collections of ESI from computers, mobile devices, servers, cloud storage, and network environments.
- Ensure the integrity and defensibility of all collections through proper chain-of-custody and documentation.
- Use industry-standard tools such as EnCase, FTK, X1 Social Discovery, Cellebrite, Magnet AXIOM, and others.
- Interface with clients to schedule and conduct collections with professionalism and discretion.
- Collaborate with project managers, legal teams, and review staff to support litigation and investigation workflows.
- Maintain current knowledge of digital forensics best practices, legal considerations, and new technologies.
Job Requirements
- Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in digital forensics or data collection in a litigation or investigation context.
- Working knowledge of digital forensic tools (e.g., Cellebrite, Axiom, WebPreserver, MessageCrawler, X1, etc.).
- Familiarity with eDiscovery workflows and legal chain-of-custody requirements.
- Ability to work independently and handle sensitive/confidential data with care.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Industry certifications (e.g., CFCE, CCE, EnCE, ACE, CCME) a plus but not required.
- Bonus Skills:
- Experience with Relativity or other eDiscovery platforms.
- Comfort collecting from Office 365, Google Workspace, Slack, or other enterprise data sources.
- Scripting or automation experience (e.g., PowerShell, Python) is a plus.
