The Sr Staff Systems Engineer XR will be assigned to SlingWorks, our advanced R&D organization, and will be part of a world-class team developing latest perception and virtual reality technologies. We are focused on equipping the Warfighter for an evolving and complex battlefield. Every day we push technology to increase decision speed, enable fast and coordinated tactics, and foster a shared battlefield awareness. Summary of Responsibilities

Job Summary:

  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of hardware and software engineers to develop the next generation extended reality (XR) systems for dismounted Warfighter applications.
  • Contribute to the technical strategy and roadmap for XR implementation, balancing innovation and product delivery timelines.
  • Responsible for architecture implementation of real-time rendering pipelines, spatial tracking systems, and mixed reality frameworks for advanced day/night display and imaging systems.
  • Utilize best practices for developing low latency, power efficient software on resource constrained hardware.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to drive product capability, enhance user experience, and accelerate development velocity.
  • Coordinate with industry leaders in extended reality and perception technologies to bring advanced capabilities to the warfighter.

 

 

 

Responsibilities and Tasks (listed in bullet format) in order of priority to be successful

  • Iteratively develop requirements, design systems, integrate prototypes, incorporate User feedback, and qualify systems that transition to production for US military customers.
  • Manage large ($Ms) subcontracts with key partners and suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain a technical roadmap for advanced extended reality capabilities.  Coordinate with business and technical leadership on research and development funding to support this roadmap.   

 

 

 

Education, Experience/Knowledge & License/Certification

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 10-15 years of related development experience
  • Experience with Android operating system
  • Experience with Unity, OpenXR, OpenVR, Android XR, and other XR software developer tools
  • Experience integrating with and developing systems that are used in the Team Awareness Kit (TAK) ecosystem
  • Knowledge of low-level embedded hardware development to system level integration

 

 

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with three and six degree of freedom extended reality systems.
  • Experience integrating displays, vision systems, inertial measurement units (IMUs), and processing components. 
  • Experiencing integrating system of systems to achieve low latency imaging processing with real time video.
  • Ability to plan and track development efforts using Agile Software techniques in Jira.
  • Leading multidisciplinary teams of electrical, systems, software, and mechanical engineers.
  • Interfacing with and selecting processing hardware and infrastructure.
  • Software troubleshooting and regression testing.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering using SysML is preferred.
  • Ability to work with and lead a diverse team of individual contributors and subject matter experts towards a common objective.
  • Proven experience accomplishing complex tasks on time and on budget.   

 

 

 

 

 

Travel/Physical Requirements

Location: Merrimack, NH (Preferred), Roanoke, VA (Secondary), Washington DC Area (Tertiary), Remote (Optional).  If remote, up to 25% of travel is required on an as needed basis to support major integration events in Merrimack, NH.
