Blue Cross NC is seeking a Principal Actuary to join our Pharmacy Analytics team as a senior individual contributor. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping and advancing our Pharmacy strategy by applying deep actuarial expertise and advanced analytical skills to support critical actuarial functions and strategic decision‑making.The Principal Actuary will collaborate closely with cross‑functional partners, business leaders, and actuarial peers to translate complex data into actionable insights that drive business outcomes. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex initiatives, influence best practices, and provide project‑based leadership and mentorship, while maintaining a strong hands‑on focus.
What You’ll Do
Actively contributes to the success of the Actuarial Services team.
Responsible for handling highly complex actuarial modeling.
Leads and/or provides consultative support to assigned projects and is viewed as an expert in the field.
Assists in pharmacy pricing for all commercial segments
Develop/Maintain self-funded pharmacy pricing model. Works within team to model updates and coordinates implementation with underwriting.
Perform Pharmacy Trend analysis
Communicates and collaborates effectively with key pharmacy stakeholders on relevant pharmacy topics
Assists in support for Financial Forecasting
Support evaluation of financial impacts of PBM and other vendors
Works effectively with external vendors, including PBM partner contacts
Continuing Education:
Responsible for maintaining continuing education requirements as set by the appropriate Actuarial governing body (i.e. Society of Actuaries)
Is a participant in good standing in the Actuarial Development Program, if still pursuing the FSA designation
What You Bring
Bachelor's degree or advanced degree (where required)
Associate of the Society of Actuaries(ASA) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA)
5+ years of experience in related field
In lieu of an ASA, alternate actuarial credentials may be considered.
In lieu of 5 years of experience, may consider candidates who are Fellows of the Society of Actuaries (FSA).
Bonus Points
Experience with Pharmacy Analytics is – Highly Preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial/actuarial information to non-technical audiences and senior leadership.
Proven ability to build relationships and work effectively with internal and external partners. – Highly Preferred
Exceptional analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team-based, collaborative environment.
Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to work independently in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Salary Range
At Blue Cross NC, we take great pride in a fair and equitable compensation package that reflects market-price and our starting salaries are typically planned near the middle of the range listed. Compensation decisions are driven by factors including experience and training, specialized skill sets, licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs.
