Role Description

The team you will join is Airbnb’s Search Feed team, responsible for the core search product experience. The team works on business critical projects such as:

• Airbnb Services
• Guest Favorites
• Reimagining the search experience using AI

Our features are used by millions of people and bring in millions of dollars in annual revenue. The team is highly collaborative with partners in design, product, and data science. We also work closely with other engineering teams that own ranking and personalization systems, and various platform teams that enable engineers to develop more effectively.

Additionally, we focus heavily on strengthening our technical foundation, which includes:

• Architecting scalable solutions that support our growing set of search features
• Addressing critical codebase pain points to boost developer productivity
• Building robust infrastructure that enhances the performance and reliability of search features

You will play a leading and impactful role in building world-class search experiences for millions of Airbnb users. You'll solve architectural, performance, and scalability challenges while working with our codebase. You'll also guide engineers and foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning.

On a typical day, you might:

• Give early directional feedback to stakeholders on the technical scope and feasibility of large and complex features
• Prototype new features to collect feedback, uncover technical challenges, and iterate with design and product partners to reach ideal product solutions
• Follow data-informed approaches to conduct experiments and iterate on the product
• Identify areas of codebase for architectural improvements, and drive a proposal to address them in service of creating performant, reliable, and scalable solutions
• Deliver the technical design or implementation of a key foundational initiative to enable multiple features and products on Airbnb’s Search product surfaces
• Review technical designs or code reviews from partner engineering teams building features on Airbnb’s Search product surfaces, enabling them to move fast while guiding them on best practices
• Mentor, guide, advocate, and support the career growth of a team member

Qualifications

• 10+ years experience developing web applications at scale with a large customer base
• Expertise in building and maintaining performant and scalable consumer web applications, ideally using React, TypeScript, and GraphQL
• A strong passion for frontend development with depth and breadth in frontend architecture and component design best practices, client performance, a11y, and styling
• Experience with motion and prototyping is a big plus
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners and across engineering teams
• Excellent communication skills and ability to present tradeoffs and iterate towards ideal solutions
• Adaptability and flexible mindset to embrace changing priorities
• Willingness to shift focus between building new product experiences and driving improvements to our technical foundations
• Passionate about technical quality and strong collaborator in code reviews and architecture discussions
• Motivated to improve the team's productivity
• Advocate of continuous learning and keeping up with innovations in the frontend industry

Location

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. While the position is Remote Eligible, you must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.

How We'll Take Care of You

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

Pay Range: $204,000 — $255,000 USD
