Job Description
Role Description
GovCIO is currently hiring for a skilled Application Packaging Engineer with experience in Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) and Flexera AdminStudio to support enterprise application deployment and lifecycle management. This position will be located in Alexandria, Virginia and is expected to be an onsite position, though it will likely start as remote.
This role is responsible for creating, repackaging, testing, and maintaining standardized Windows application packages that meet security, compliance, and operational requirements. The ideal candidate is highly proficient in MSI technology, PowerShell scripting, and enterprise deployment workflows, and can independently deliver reliable, scalable application packages in a large Windows environment.
Responsibilities

Application Packaging & Repackaging
- Repackage and customize Windows applications using AdminStudio (InstallShield Editor, Repackager).
- Create, modify, and maintain MSI packages, MST transforms, and EXE wrappers.
- Standardize vendor installers to support silent install, uninstall, repair, and upgrade scenarios.
- Resolve MSI errors and application conflicts.

MECM (SCCM) Application Management
- Create MECM Applications.
- Configure detection methods, dependencies, supersedence, and requirement rules.
- Prepare applications for production deployment via MECM.
- Support application upgrades, patching, and retirement strategies.
- Troubleshoot MECM deployment failures using logs (AppEnforce.log, AppDiscovery.log, MSI logs).

PowerShell & Automation
- Develop PowerShell scripts for install logic, detection, remediation, and logging.
- Automate packaging workflows and post-install configuration.

Testing & Quality Assurance
- Test application packages across supported OS baselines (Windows 11).
- Validate install, uninstall, repair, and upgrade paths.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise packaging standards and security baselines.

Documentation & Standards
- Create and maintain detailed packaging documentation and SOPs.
- Enforce naming conventions, versioning, and packaging standards.
- Maintain application catalogs and packaging repositories.

Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with desktop engineering, security, and application owners.
- Provide Tier 3 support for application deployment issues.
- Assist with root-cause analysis of failed deployments and remediation planning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's with 2 to 5 years (or commensurate experience)
