Role Description
The Elementary Virtual Instructor provides instruction and academic support to students in an online learning environment. This position is responsible for ensuring student learning and progress, supervising students during virtual instruction, and delivering pre-designed curriculum and coursework. The instructor collaborates with teachers, professional staff, and administrators to support high-quality instruction and responds to questions from students and parents/guardians regarding coursework, expectations, and student performance. Virtual instructors are also expected to serve as positive ambassadors for online learning opportunities with both internal and external stakeholders.
Specifically, the Elementary Accelerated Math Asynchronous Virtual Instructor will teach elementary students who meet the criteria for math acceleration but are unable to attend in-person instruction. This teacher will support students across multiple grade levels and will provide one hour of in-person office hours each day for students who need additional help.
Essential Functions
- Utilizes Schoology as the learning management system for Parkway Elementary Accelerated Math students.
- Administers subject-specific assignments for the purpose of assessing student learning.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations and students' achievements and developing methods for improvement.
- Analyzes performance data for the purpose of enhancing student achievement.
- Assesses student progress towards course standards, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing regular, high-quality feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Facilitates face-to-face meetings at a mutually agreeable time that does not conflict with in-person or synchronous virtual instruction.
- Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject-specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective education that addresses individual student learning needs.
- Facilitates student learning (e.g., creating a learning environment, successfully integrating technology, encouraging a learning environment, fostering collaboration) in a pre-designed course.
- Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential files and records (e.g., grades, test scores, anecdotal records, etc.) to document student progress in accordance with established guidelines and legal requirements.
- Monitors students and manages student behavior in the asynchronous online environment for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Participates in a variety of trainings and professional development related to teaching and learning in an online environment.
Qualifications
- Elementary Certification; 1-6 required.
- Math Specialists Certification, preferred.
- Online teaching experience, preferred.
- Curriculum writing experience, preferred.
- Experience using a Learning Management System, preferred.
- Experience using instructional technology tools, preferred.
- Advanced skills in Google Docs, preferred.
Requirements
- Appropriate Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification REQUIRED for consideration to teach this class.
- Asynchronous Virtual positions will be an additional duty to the employee's existing teaching assignment paid via stipend.
- Teachers are paid for each semester-course they teach based on student enrollment.
- Course enrollment will be capped at 25-27 students per section.
- If enrollment reaches 28 students, a second section will be created.
- The current teacher will have the option to take on the additional section.
- If the teacher chooses not to add a second section, students will be divided evenly between the two sections, and an additional teacher will be hired.
Benefits
- Base Pay: $800.00 per semester.
- Per Student Pay Rate: $173.35 (based on the number of students enrolled on the first day after the deadline to drop semester courses).
