Role Description
The UC Technician will support the Army Voice Modernization (VMOD) program. This position is responsible for assisting with the installation, migration, sustainment, and troubleshooting of enterprise Voice over IP (VoIP) and telecommunications infrastructure across CONUS Army installations. This role supports both new construction and active operational environments and requires strong hands-on technical experience in voice systems, structured cabling, and network infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Assist with site surveys to support comprehensive system design planning
- Support installation, testing of VoIP systems
- Support migration, installation, and de-installation of voice and network systems
- Perform integration and acceptance testing
- Deploy and troubleshoot VoIP handsets
- Rack voice gateways
- Transition cross-connects to new termination blocks
Telecommunications & Cabling Duties
- Establish voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables
- Mount and install backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware, and related equipment
- Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling as required
- Complete IDC connections (e.g., terminating copper cabling)
- Perform cable testing (continuity testing for horizontal and riser cables)
- Troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transposed pairs
- Use tone sets to identify active voice and data circuits
- Label and document network infrastructure, routing equipment, and configuration diagrams
Requirements
- Active Secret Security Clearance
- 1-5 years of relevant experience
- Must be willing and able to travel extensively for the role
- Experience supporting VoIP and enterprise voice systems
- Familiarity with networking principles and fundamentals
- Knowledge of ISP/OSP cabling, including:
- DSX patch panels
- Main Distribution Frames (MDF) for analog lines
- Fiber and copper patch panels
- Copper and fiber telecom color codes
- Familiarity with BICSI standards for telecommunications infrastructure planning and design
- Working knowledge of power distribution systems (AC, DC, UPS)
Job Requirements
