Role Description
Hastings Insurance is seeking a Middle Market Territory Manager to join its Middle Market Commercial Underwriting team. This strategic role will be responsible for driving new commercial business growth across Ohio and Indiana with a focus on our Middle Market presence. The individual in this position will:
- Cultivate high-performing agency partnerships.
- Identify new opportunities.
- Align field strategy with underwriting and corporate growth objectives.
You will operate with significant autonomy while collaborating closely with Commercial Underwriting, peer Territory Managers, and Sales leadership to build profitable, sustainable growth in an evolving regional marketplace.
Schedule & Location:
- This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- The role is remote and territory-based, requiring residence within or relocation to the designated service region.
- Daily travel throughout the assigned territory is expected, and a company vehicle is provided.
What You'll Do:
- Develop and execute a Middle Market growth strategy across Ohio and Indiana.
- Build consultative, results-driven partnerships with independent agencies focused on commercial new business production.
- Identify and recommend new agency appointments aligned with regional expansion efforts.
- Provide underwriting guidance within authority, supporting disciplined risk selection and profitable growth.
- Partner with Commercial Underwriting leadership to align appetite, pricing strategy, and field execution.
- Conduct and continually monitor agency business planning and compensation implementation efforts.
- Deliver targeted training to agency partners on Hastings’ commercial products, quoting strategy, and submission quality.
- Analyze territory performance and market conditions to inform strategic growth initiatives.
- Monitor agency production and profitability trends; recommend actions to improve performance.
- Represent Hastings with professionalism and credibility in the field.
- Travel regularly within Ohio and Indiana to maintain strong agency engagement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 6 years of Property & Casualty experience with strong Commercial Lines focus.
- CIC, CPCU, or other professional designations preferred.
- Experience working directly with independent agencies in a sales, marketing, or field underwriting capacity.
- Strong understanding of Middle Market underwriting principles and commercial risk evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability to drive new business growth while maintaining underwriting discipline.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to translate market insight into actionable growth plans.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet fleet safety standards.
