Job Description
Role Description
We currently have an opportunity for a Risk Control Technical Specialist to join our Risk Control team located remotely in the Southern Region of the United States. This position is for a specialty line of business, conducts risk analysis through technical investigations, risk evaluation and loss analyses by performing comprehensive fact-finding and review of physical data, loss information, and coordination of risk control programs. Through consultative survey and/or high-level technical services, actively contributes to the achievement of corporate and regional underwriting goals. Some of the Risk Control Technical Specialist responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provides timely information to the Underwriting department for further risk evaluation and assessment.
- Monitors accounts' programs, identifies required improvements, and presents recommendations to enhance or modify accounts where appropriate.
- Manages and maintains portfolios and conducts analysis to ensure the integrity of the book of business.
- Provides high level technical services, evaluations and policyholder training in an area of specialty.

Communicates technical conclusions internally and externally so that there is clear understanding of:
- scope and nature of risk,
- pros and cons of various risk mitigation strategies, and
- which mitigation strategies are preferred.
- Influences Underwriters', Agents' and client behaviors through negotiation, relationship-building, and by leveraging individual and collective expertise to educate/inform.
- Coordinates multiple location accounts.
- Prepares and implements service plans to improve and retain accounts.
- Monitors and communicates account service needs of multiple location accounts through the development of servicing instructions.
- Manages accounts by formulating a coherent assessment and improvement strategy based on identified major loss sources, scope and nature of account.
- Executes strategy including identifying specific tactics, forming an appropriate RC service team, engaging underwriter, agent and client and following up so that tactics are executed timely and in manner that is relevant to challenges faced by client and agent.
- Provides high level technical services, evaluations and policyholder training.
- Presents individual and collective technical expertise in manner that it is viewed by clients and agents as reason for doing business with the company.
- Takes the initiative to enhance loss control/industry knowledge through participation in educational programs.
- Utilizes the company risk control systems and applications to increase job productivity, efficiency and quality.
- Supports account and internal operations by providing or acquiring specialized business unit expertise.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training/experience required.
- 3-5 years of risk control experience in commercial and/or specialty insurance area required.
- Professional Insurance certification such as ARM, CPHRM or ASP preferred.
- Technical designation to include CSP or PE, with CPE preferred.
Requirements
- Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience and skillset of the candidate.
- The typical base salary range for this position is: $127,000 - $169,000 based on the factors aforementioned.
- For candidates located in San Francisco, CA; Washington DC; our Massachusetts based offices and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $148,000 - $173,000.
