Job Description
Role Description
Review, analyze and inspect insurance contracts, application, production, and acreage report processing, research, written agreements, scanning, completing policy reviews, delegation and coaching, and always provide exceptional customer service.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Obtain policy from agents.
- Verify correctness of applications.
- Verify acreage and production reports.
- Research agent questions.
- Meet agent deadlines established by Risk Management Agency (RMA) policy and procedure.
- Teach agents to use the system.
- Review applications for renewals.
- Data Entry including policy information, production data, acreage report data, etc. and updates records. Confirms accuracy of information.
- Maintain effective, professional, and productive agent relationships.
- Answer calls and emails from agents and research agent questions.
- Attend training classes to further education and knowledge within the crop insurance industry.
- Obtain knowledge of a variety of crop insurance requirements.
- Confirm and verify policy forms in accordance with RMA guidelines and approve acceptance.
- Interpret FCIC policies.
- Work Policy Acceptance and Storage System (PASS) Errors and help train other Underwriters how to access and work errors.
- Submit and process RMA exceptions.
- Process production and acreage reports.
- Conduct policy Reviews including but not limited to, applications, production, acreage, and quality assurance.
- Excellent customer service skills with ability to keep customers as the top priority.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to perform work without direct supervision.
- Complete assigned reviews.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the MPCI program and the applicable underwriting rules and procedures.
- Ability to learn and understand what information is needed to process insurance policies, FCIC rules and regulations, policy provision, etc.
- Ability to understand printed policy information, such as manuals, handbooks, and actuarial documents and to apply information to work tasks.
- Basic keyboarding skills, ten-key skills, and the ability to enter information rapidly and accurately into the computer.
- Ability to comprehend agents’ questions and concerns over the telephone and to provide correct, courteous answers.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to effectively communicate and maintain business relationships with company personnel, outside resources and customers.
- Ability to learn and apply company terminology, processes, and systems.
- Ability to learn and develop skills in the use of department equipment.
- Ability to perform basic and complex mathematical calculations.
- Ability to remain calm and professional.
- Ability to work well with people in a team environment.
- Ability to work from oral and written communications.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to assist in other work-related areas as required.
- Able to work in a team environment.
- Use of general office equipment.
- Train other Underwriting team members.
Education and Work Experience
- Required - High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Required – Experience in crop insurance.
- Preferred – 5+ years related experience preferred.
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions
- Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
- Ability to stand or sit constantly/continuously.
- Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
- Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines.
- The work environment requires the employee to work inside where there are limited extremes to heat and/or cold; moderate noise; a normal office environment.
- Travel required for meetings and trainings.
