Role Description

EPM is seeking an experienced mortgage Underwriter to join our team. You’ll be responsible for ensuring real estate loan applications are completed with all required documents submitted correctly and loan files are in accordance with the latest investor guidelines and industry standards. The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented professional who wants to play a key role on a winning team.

  • Independently underwriting a wide range of mortgage loans, including FHA, VA, USDA, and conventional products, while ensuring compliance, risk assessment, and sound decision-making based on both AUS and manual analysis.
  • Ensure all loan files meet HUD, FHA, investor, regulatory, and internal guidelines and overlays.
  • Review and analyze credit, income, assets, and collateral documentation to determine loan eligibility; inquire about any additional information needed to determine loan risk.
  • Review mortgage loan applications and examine supporting documents to ensure all required information is included and complete for approval or rejection; make accurate and timely underwriting decisions for mortgage loans.
  • Ensure that once all information is received it is accurate, meets compliance standards, and aligns with company policies.
  • Communicate and document reasons for approval or rejection of loans so clients and loan officers are well-informed of decisions.
  • Collaborate with internal operations team members, clients, and brokers to gather necessary documentation, clarify information, and ensure smooth processing of loan applications.
  • Meet company SLAs for loan turnaround times and file quality standards.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding to client inquiries regarding loan application statuses or documentation requirements.
  • Additional responsibilities related to business needs.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of home loans and residential mortgages such as conventional, VA, FHA, USDA, Non-QM loans, and loan products.
  • 5+ years of mortgage underwriting experience or mortgage lending experience required.
  • Active DE/CHUMS and LAPP/SAR certification required.
  • 2+ years' experience with manual underwrites.
  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
  • Understanding of compliance standards, including federal regulations (e.g., RESPA, TILA, and Dodd-Frank) and company policies.
  • Knowledgeable in automated underwriting systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong decision-making and communication skills.
  • Recent experience with wholesale underwriting.
  • Proficiency with Encompass loan origination system preferred.
