Role Description
Our client is seeking an experienced and strategic EVP Inland Marine Underwriting to lead the underwriting strategy, portfolio management, and growth of their Inland Marine business. This individual will be responsible for overseeing underwriting operations, driving profitable growth, and maintaining strong broker relationships across key markets. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in inland marine lines, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven track record of managing profitable portfolios. This role will play a key part in shaping underwriting strategy, guiding underwriting teams, and partnering with internal stakeholders to strengthen the company’s inland marine presence.
- Lead underwriting strategy and portfolio management for the Inland Marine line of business.

Oversee underwriting activities for inland marine risks including, but not limited to:
- Builders’ risk
- Contractors’ equipment
- Motor truck cargo
- Installation floaters
- Miscellaneous inland marine exposures
- Establish underwriting guidelines, pricing strategies, and risk selection standards to support profitable growth.
- Review and approve complex or high-value risks while providing technical expertise and guidance to underwriting staff.
- Manage and mentor inland marine underwriting team members, supporting professional development and technical training.
- Monitor portfolio performance, analyze trends, and adjust underwriting strategy to meet profitability and growth objectives.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with retail and wholesale brokers to drive production and retention.
- Collaborate with actuarial, claims, risk control, and product development teams to support underwriting initiatives and product enhancements.
- Identify market opportunities and emerging risks to expand the organization’s inland marine capabilities.
- Ensure compliance with company underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Represent the organization at broker meetings, industry events, and market engagements.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of inland marine underwriting experience, with leadership or management responsibilities preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of inland marine coverage forms and exposures.
- Demonstrated experience managing or overseeing a profitable book of business.
- Proven ability to evaluate complex risks and provide strategic underwriting guidance.
- Established broker relationships and strong marketing skills preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
- Leadership experience mentoring and developing underwriting talent.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
- Proficiency with underwriting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
