Job Description

Virtual Classroom Teacher (K–5)

St. Louis Voices Academy of Media Arts
Remote (U.S.) | Hybrid Option for St. Louis Area | Full-Time | Salaried

Rethink What Teaching Can Look Like

Are you an experienced teacher who loves instruction but is exhausted by constant behavior management, supervision duties, and administrative overload?

At St. Louis Voices Academy of Media Arts, we are redesigning the classroom so teachers can focus on what they do best: teaching.

Our model pairs a Virtual Classroom Teacher with an in-person Studio Instructional Lead who manages classroom logistics, student supervision, small groups, behavior management, and transitions. This allows teachers to concentrate on instruction, engagement, and student learning instead of juggling every operational responsibility.

If you are a Missouri-certified elementary school educator who wants to teach, innovate, and connect with students without carrying the entire classroom alone, this role may be a great fit.

School Overview

St. Louis Voices Academy of Media Arts is an innovative public charter school serving students and families in St. Louis City. The school will grow to serve grades K–4.

Our mission is to leverage media arts and storytelling to equip students with the agency to excel academically, author their own futures, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

We prioritize:

  • Whole-child development
  • Student voice and storytelling
  • Inquiry-based learning
  • Progressive learner autonomy

Position Overview

The Virtual Classroom Teacher delivers live instruction to elementary students through a technology-enabled classroom environment.

Students are physically present in the classroom while instruction is delivered virtually. Each classroom is supported by a Studio Instructional Lead, who manages:

  • classroom supervision
  • behavior support
  • student transitions
  • logistics and materials

The Virtual Classroom Teacher focuses on:

  • instruction
  • engagement
  • academic progress
  • curriculum implementation
  • lesson planning and internalization
  • data performance and progress

This role is fully remote for teachers located in Missouri.

Important Role Clarification

This position does not function like a traditional classroom teacher role where one adult manages every aspect of the classroom.

Instead, this is a collaborative instructional model in which responsibilities are shared between the Virtual Classroom Teacher and the in-person Studio Instructional Lead.

The Virtual Classroom Teacher is responsible for:

  • Delivering live instruction and leading lessons
  • Delivering pre-recorded instruction
  • Designing and implementing a curriculum
  • Assessing student learning and monitoring academic progress
  • Engaging students in discussions, projects, and presentations
  • Guiding instructional pacing and academic expectations
  • Grading the students on the subject you teach

The Studio Instructional Lead supports:

  • Supervising students in the physical classroom
  • Assisting with classroom management and behavior support
  • Managing transitions, materials, and logistics
  • Providing in-room assistance during instruction
  • Facilitating small groups and practice sessions
  • Supporting students with task completion and engagement

Teachers who thrive in this role enjoy team-based classrooms and a strong instructional focus.

Teachers seeking full physical classroom control or traditional solo teaching environments may find this model less aligned with their expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction

  • Deliver engaging, live, and pre-recorded instruction to students in grades K–4
  • Teach across one core subject area per grade level
  • Facilitate student discussions, projects, and presentations
  • Differentiate instruction for diverse learners
  • Implement culturally responsive and inquiry-based learning

Collaboration

  • Partner closely with the Studio Instructional Lead
  • Coordinate lesson pacing and classroom activities
  • Provide guidance on student support needs

Data & Assessment

  • Monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments
  • Analyze student data to adjust instruction
  • Participate in weekly instructional team meetings

Relationships & Culture

  • Build positive relationships with students
  • Communicate regularly with families
  • Foster an inclusive, engaging classroom culture

Professional Growth

  • Participate in coaching and professional development
  • Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen instruction
  • Reflect on teaching practice and student outcomes

Qualifications

Required

  • Missouri Teaching Certification:
    • Initial Professional Certificate (IPC) or
    • Career Continuous Professional Certificate (CCPC)
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or related field
  • Experience teaching elementary students
  • Ability to teach multiple grades and subject areas (K–5)

Preferred

  • 2+ years of classroom teaching experience
  • Experience with virtual, blended, or technology-supported instruction
  • Experience in charter or urban schools
  • Master's degree or higher in Education or related field

Who Thrives in This Role

This role is ideal for teachers who:

✔ Love teaching but want less operational stress
✔ Enjoy collaboration with other adults in the classroom
✔ Are comfortable teaching in technology-enabled environments
✔ Want to focus on instruction and student growth

Why Teachers Choose This Role

Many educators are passionate about teaching but are leaving traditional classrooms because of overwhelming demands that pull them away from instruction. Our model is designed to allow teachers to focus on teaching while being supported by a collaborative team.

Teachers in this role benefit from:

  • Focusing on instruction rather than constant classroom supervision
  • Teaching in a structured classroom supported by an in-person Studio Instructional Lead
  • Spending more time on lesson delivery, student engagement, and learning outcomes
  • Collaborating with colleagues rather than managing every classroom responsibility alone
  • Working in a technology-enabled environment that supports innovative instruction
  • Being part of a mission-driven school community focused on student voice, storytelling, and real-world learning
  • Continuing professional growth while working in a forward-thinking instructional model

This role is ideal for educators who love teaching and connecting with students but want a more sustainable and collaborative approach to the classroom.
