Job Description
The Mechanical Startup Lead will manage mechanical activities on site during the Startup & Commissioning of LM6000 gas turbines. Responsible for reviewing plant engineering documents and P&ID’s, troubleshooting of plant systems and equipment, planning, organizing, integrating and direction of resources such as labor, tools and materials as required to complete work scope.
- The Mechanical Startup Lead Reports to the Startup Manager on matters involving the mechanical work during installation, commission and operation of the LM6000.
- Responsible for start-up testing and performance testing which includes reviewing documents and P&IDs, performing testing and troubleshooting on plant systems and equipment.
- Attend daily start-up meetings to coordinate activities in a safe manner while interfacing with other personnel involved in the project such as electrical, controls, construction, operations, engineering, and vendors.
- Direct other mechanical techs and crafts under his supervision in support of start-up testing activities.
- Develop startup procedures, startup schedules, and site-specific startup documentation.
- Ensure the correct installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning and maintenance practices are followed.
- Maintain startup packages, controlled drawings, and applicable project records.
- Address activities during performance testing emissions testing, and reliability testing.
- Oversees the third party testing of applicable equipment.
- Ensures lockout and tag-out procedures and all other safety-related activities are maintained.
- Provide scheduling and status reports to Startup Manager.
- Ensure all in-field activities are carried out safely complying with company environmental, health, and safety (EHS) guidelines and procedures.
- Procurement and maintaining of spare parts and consumables required for testing of systems.
- Responsible for site mechanical activities including planning, organizing, integrating and directing of resources such as labor, tools and materials as required to complete the work scope.
- Bachelor Degree in Engineering and 5 years of experience, or 8 years of experience without formal degree, in installation and commissioning of LM6000 gas turbines. Demonstrated progressive, responsible experience with various types of turbine generator equipment and site accountabilities is required.
- Prior Startup Mechanical experience (5 years minimum) installing and commissioning LM6000 gas turbines.
- Hands on experience working on LM6000 package equipment.
- Experience in rigging turbines, generators and associated equipment.
- Borescope Inspection on aeroderivative units.
- Extensive travel to and from projects and various field assignments is required, including domestic and international travel for extended periods of time.
- Strong analytic and problem solving skills.
- Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- Must be able and willing to work long hours.
- Must be able and willing to work in extreme weather conditions (heat and cold) for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to climb ladders and steps.
- Must read, write and speak fluent English.
- U.S. work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized Visa.
- Successful candidate will need to satisfactorily complete pre-employment drug screen and background check.
