Role Description

The Communications Specialist exudes the heart and passion for HCF’s mission: to inspire the spirit of giving and invest in people and solutions to benefit our community. This role brings a sharp eye for emerging trends across social platforms and the strategic acumen to translate those insights into corporate communications that keep HCF’s content relevant, timely, and brand-aligned.

  • Support organizational visibility and community engagement by planning, executing, and evaluating daily communications initiatives.
  • Develop and schedule social media content.
  • Support email marketing campaigns.
  • Assist with event planning and promotion.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to produce clear, consistent content.

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Strengthen the Organizational Communications Capacity and Internal Support:
    • Produce clear, consistent, and mission-aligned content that strengthens engagement and program visibility.
    • Lead project management for communications initiatives and campaigns.
    • Draft, publish, and analyze social media content across organizational platforms.
    • Create day-to-day digital content for social and web platforms.
    • Monitor digital channels for responsiveness and community engagement.
    • Lead the development and distribution of newsletters, email campaigns, and website updates.
    • Own routine website maintenance to ensure content remains current and accurate.
    • Track key metrics across social media, email, and digital channels.
    • Lead planning and logistics for organizational events.
    • Translate emerging social media and digital communications trends into actionable recommendations.
    • Coordinate with internal teams and partners as needed.
    • Motivate top performance and accountability through clear communication of goals and objectives.

Other Responsibilities

  • Expand skills and knowledge of the communications and philanthropic sector by attending relevant meetings, workshops, and seminars.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable and collaborative representative of HCF in the community.
  • Partner collaboratively with other staff members to ensure effective outcomes and mission-driven team culture.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong writing, editing, and narrative development skills.
  • Familiarity with social media management and analytics tools.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Highly proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Internet research, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Photoshop, and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to be extremely discrete with sensitive or confidential information.
  • Thorough knowledge, sensitivity, and understanding of the history and complexities of Hawai‘i’s multicultural community.
  • Demonstrated passion for the betterment of Hawai‘i and its people.
  • Capable of thriving in a highly collaborative and flexible organization.

Work Environment, Physical, and Mental Demands

  • Works under regular in-office conditions with the ability to work remotely.
  • General office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Required to travel as needed.
  • Ability to multi-task, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, up to 25 lbs. of general office material or equipment.
