Role Description
This role involves leading mortgage auditing with a focus on automation and customer delivery.
- Act as the primary mortgage audit SME during onboarding, pilots, and go-live phases.
- Conduct end-to-end QC validation across income, assets, credit, appraisal, compliance, and closing documentation.
- Present audit findings clearly to customers and explain system outputs in underwriting language.
- Translate underwriting and QC checklists into structured automation workflows.
- Work with Product and Engineering to clarify guideline logic, exception handling, and calculation methodologies.
- Validate AI-generated audit outputs and flag discrepancies.
- Ensure customer work is delivered accurately and within defined SLAs.
- Partner with India-based audit and DP teams to ensure consistent interpretation of guidelines.
- Identify gaps between customer guidelines and platform behavior.
- Support smooth transition from pilot to scaled delivery.
- Drive continuous process improvement and feedback loops.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in US Residential Mortgage Underwriting or Post-Closing QC with direct responsibility for full loan file review.
- Deep working knowledge of Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, Jumbo, and Non-QM guidelines, with the ability to interpret and apply investor overlays.
- Proven experience reviewing complete loan files including income (self-employed preferred), assets, credit, appraisal, compliance, and closing documentation.
- Ability to break down complex underwriting decisions into clear, structured explanations and documented findings.
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to identify root causes, not just surface-level deficiencies.
- Comfortable engaging with customers, defending audit positions, and explaining guideline interpretations confidently.
- Experience working in distributed or cross-functional environments, collaborating with product, operations, or offshore teams.
- Ability to operate independently in a US-based remote role with required overlap across time zones.

- Familiarity with TRID, ATR/QM, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Prior exposure to mortgage automation or AI-based document processing tools.
- Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving ability.
- Experience supporting distributed or offshore audit teams.
