Role Description
The Research Assistant Professor oversees operations of the Stem Cell Isolation and Xenotransplantation Facility and works with research staff and members at ISCRM and the college to develop and implement experiments; primary cell analyses and isolation are the primary scientific objectives of this core unit. The incumbent will be expected to ensure reliable operation and maintenance of core hardware and service delivery to internal (Einstein) and external users (from other institutions).
- Oversee daily operation and all aspects of the Core Facility under supervision of a Faculty Scientific Director.
- Work closely with the Xenotransplantation branch of the core facility to fulfill research needs of the users (maintain and expand current model/service portfolio based on user need).
- Develop flow cytometry/cell sorting protocols.
- Design and develop specialized methods and/or techniques to provide protocols in cytometric procedures and assays in collaboration with users.
- Operate and maintain existing analysis/sorting equipment and computer systems.
- Participate in the selection of new facility equipment and software with advancing technology.
- Perform and schedule routine and non-routine maintenance.
- Troubleshoot instrument problems and consult with vendor technical staff regarding the best approach for repair.
- Design and implement procedures and protocols appropriate for the management of multi-user equipment.
- Recruit and train new facility staff.
- Train new users and conduct training sessions and/or workshops on basic and advanced techniques.
- Develop training material and user manuals.
- Operate application software and train users in its use.
- Assist users in interpreting and evaluating raw data.
- Manage data storage, backup, and retrieval.
- Troubleshoot networked computers and network architecture/connections to facilitate data transfer, storage, and retrieval.
- Work together with Faculty Scientific Director to establish facility priorities and prepare long-range strategic plans.
- Assist principal investigators in technical aspects of the development of research proposals.
- Perform various administrative duties, oversee billing to users, and prepare reports related to facility usage charts, progress reports, resource descriptions, and other related tasks as needed.
- Provide state-of-the-art advances in technology through workshops and seminars to users and interested researchers.
- Network with other facility directors around campus in discussions of facility management and technical support for facility-related projects.
- Attend departmental meetings as necessary to facilitate operation and knowledge transfer.
- Provide a safe working environment for facility users and monitor safety compliance as per university guidelines.
Qualifications
- M.Sc. degree in relevant biomedical field required.
- Ph.D. with 5+ years of research lab experience that includes at least 3 years of direct flow cytometry experience.
- Experience in core facility preferred but not required.
- Strong technical background in biological sciences and complex flow cytometry assays is required.
- Experience of independent operation of a high-speed cell sorter is required.
- Experience of managing staff is required.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) required.
- Must be able to interact with peers and experts in the field to keep abreast of advances in cytometry and related fields.
- Interact with diverse users with a wide range of technical expertise and education.

- Maximum Salary Range: USD $133,000.00/Yr.
