Role Description

Airtable is looking for backend engineers to join our team to help improve critical product infrastructure, focusing on building systems that have a great developer experience and will scale as we grow.

We currently have openings on:

• Base Infrastructure:
  • Work on the Base Infrastructure team.
  • Key projects include:
    • Building replication to support zero downtime failovers.
    • Optimizing performance and memory usage.
    • Vertical scaling.
• Compute:
  • Builds and manages our Kubernetes-based platform.
  • Supports every service at Airtable, including new AI services.
  • Roadmap includes:
    • Overhauling our network stack and service discovery.
    • Region level disaster recovery.
    • Building custom Kubernetes operators.
• Data Infrastructure:
  • Enables data-driven decision making at Airtable.
  • Technologies used include Apache Spark, Kafka, and Apache Flink.
  • Focus on:
    • Scaling to petabyte volume.
    • Enabling sub-second streaming.
    • Tightening data governance.
    • Delivering cost-efficient ML-ready datasets.
• Storage:
  • Accelerates product development by providing scalable, reliable storage abstractions.
  • Technologies used include RDS MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis, and TiDB.
  • Focus on:
    • Distributed systems and databases.
    • Owning all aspects of building, running, and improving storage systems.

Please note: We employ a hybrid working model at Airtable, but we are only hiring in the following locations:

• San Francisco Bay Area (open to coming into the office ~2-3 times/week).
• New York City (open to coming into the office ~2-3 times/week).
• Greater Seattle area (remote).

Qualifications

• At least 8 years of industry experience.
• Experience in databases, distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, and data infrastructure.
• Strong background in computer science with a degree in CS or a related field.
• Willingness to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area or New York City.

Requirements

• Proactively identify and lead significant improvements to Airtable’s infrastructure.
• Work on systems-level problems in a complex design space.
• Build clean, reusable, and maintainable abstractions.
• Take full ownership of components of Airtable’s infrastructure.

• Base salary range for this role in specified locations: $196,000 - $339,900 USD.
