Job Description
Role Description
As the Senior Product Manager for Activities & Balances, you’ll own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the platform that transforms raw financial events into clear client activities and accurate balances across Wealthsimple. Reporting to the Lead PM, Financial Data, you’ll ensure we have a strong technical foundation — data models, pipelines, APIs, and tooling — that makes it easy for teams across Wealthsimple to build consistent, trustworthy client experiences on top of Activities and Balances. You’ll work closely with the Core Balances and Financial Accounting & Metrics (FAM) engineering teams to design how activities flow through our systems, how they materialize into balances, and how they support mission-critical use cases like statements, tax, and financial metrics. This is a client centric platform-style role that will require migration and legacy tech deprecation management, where you’ll lead the transition to our next-generation Financial Data stack while minimizing client and operational risk.
What you’ll do
- Own the end-to-end Activities and Balances domains (models, pipelines, APIs, contracts, and UX principles) that power client activity and balances across Wealthsimple products.
- Define and drive the roadmap for the global activity feed and balance experiences, ensuring they are accurate, performant, and consistent across platforms, currencies, and account types.
- Build and maintain clear rules for different balance types, making it obvious to both internal stakeholders and clients what they can do with their funds and why.
- Act as the bridge between deep technical systems and the client experience, translating complex trade-offs into simple, intuitive flows and always keeping client trust and clarity at the center of decisions.
- Own the pipeline that transforms activities into balances, including how it integrates with other services, and downstream consumers.
- Lead major platform migrations, deprecating legacy activity and balance systems and moving use cases onto a unified Financial Data foundation with clear milestones and risk management.
- Partner deeply with engineering to design data flows that support balances, statements, tax, and financial metrics with strong correctness and observability.
- Collaborate with other PMs and product teams to understand their needs and solve their problems in reusable ways rather than one-off features.
- Set and monitor key health metrics (e.g., activity and balance freshness, correctness, performance, developer experience) for Activities, Balances, and use them to prioritize trade-offs and investments.
- Dig into the details of data models, logs, and edge cases to understand issues, validate hypotheses, and support engineering in debugging and remediation.
- Champion platform thinking and best practices, helping teams adopt new capabilities, align on patterns, and ship changes safely in a high-change environment.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of product management experience, ideally in customer centric, highly technical domains.
- Strong technical background, ideally with a computer science, engineering, or equivalent foundation, and comfort collaborating deeply with senior engineers.
- Fast learner with a demonstrated ability to ramp quickly on complex systems, data models, and architectures.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts simply to both technical and non-technical audiences, creating clarity in ambiguous and highly technical problem spaces.
- Ability to come up with creative changes to requirements to deliver value to clients while reducing technical complexity.
- Collaborative, low-ego working style, with a bias to roll up your sleeves, ask questions, and build strong relationships across engineering, data, operations, and other product teams.
- Proven track record of shipping platform capabilities (APIs, shared services, or internal tools) that unlock value for multiple product teams or domains with experience leading large-scale migrations or replatforming efforts.
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, high-change environment, with the ability to adapt quickly, make thoughtful trade-offs, and keep teams aligned on what matters most.
Benefits
- Top-tier health benefits and life insurance
- Long-term group savings with employer match, through Wealthsimple for Business
- 20 vacation days, 4 wellness days, and unlimited sick and mental health days per year
- 90 days away: work outside Canada for up to 90 days per year
- Employee resource groups, including Rainbow (2SLGBTQ), Women of WS, and Black at WS
- We are a hybrid team with over 1,500 employees across North America.
