Role Description
AstroNetix is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support advanced mission systems supporting national security and space operations. This role sits at the intersection of systems engineering, distributed software architectures, and operational mission platforms, helping bridge engineering teams with mission operators. The ideal candidate understands modern software-driven systems, including event streaming architectures, microservices, and high-throughput data environments, and can translate operational needs into scalable system solutions. This is a remote position supporting mission-focused engineering efforts across multiple government programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead systems engineering efforts across complex software-driven platforms
- Translate mission requirements into technical system architectures
- Support development of distributed systems and data pipelines
- Work closely with software engineers implementing systems using technologies such as Kafka, containerized services, and cloud infrastructure
- Define and manage system interfaces, data flows, and integration points
- Conduct system design reviews, architecture evaluations, and trade studies
- Support integration of mission systems across multiple operational domains
- Develop technical documentation, including CONOPS, system architecture diagrams, and interface definitions
- Collaborate with program leadership and engineering teams to ensure mission requirements are met
Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI security clearance
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in systems engineering or related technical roles
- Experience supporting software-centric systems or distributed architectures
- Understanding of event-driven architectures and streaming platforms (Kafka or similar)
- Experience working with microservices, APIs, or cloud-based systems
- Ability to translate operational needs into technical architecture solutions
- Strong experience supporting system integration and testing
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Apache Kafka or similar event streaming platforms
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GovCloud)
- Experience supporting DoD, IC, or space mission systems
- Background supporting command and control, ISR, or space operations
- Experience with Agile or DevSecOps development environments
