Job Description

Who we are

Vetcor is a leading provider of veterinary care, managing a network of 900 veterinary practices across the United States and Canada. We are dedicated to delivering exceptional care to pets while equipping our veterinary teams with advanced tools, resources, and training.

As we continue to scale, we are strengthening our data governance, compliance, and analytics capabilities to support operational excellence and financial integrity across our organization. We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data infrastructure that supports enterprise reporting, financial reconciliation, and operational analytics.

This role is ideal for a highly technical engineer who thrives in Azure and Databricks environments and is passionate about data quality, governance, and reliability. You will report to the Director of IT Governance & Strategy and collaborate closely with the CIO, data analysts, finance stakeholders, and external vendors to ensure the integrity and stability of our data ecosystem.

This is a fully remote, contract-to-hire opportunity, with long-term conversion potential.

The Work

  • Design, build, optimize, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines across Azure, Databricks, and SQL environments

  • Develop and support ingestion frameworks (API-based and file-based) across multiple external platforms (PIMS, procurement systems, home delivery vendors)

  • Implement data quality validation, deduplication logic, reconciliation controls, and financial accuracy checks

  • Build Spark/Python-based transformation and orchestration logic within Databricks

  • Partner with Finance, Operations, and IT Governance to align data assets with enterprise reporting standards

  • Participate in incident management and root cause analysis for production data issues

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, playbooks, and knowledge transfer materials to reduce single points of failure

  • Support strategic initiatives requiring scalable, resilient, and compliant data architecture.

What We Are Looking For Experience

  • 7-10+ years of experience in data engineering

  • Proven experience designing scalable data pipelines in cloud environments

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in SQL

  • Strong hands-on experience with Spark and Python

  • Deep understanding of ETL/ELT architecture and data pipeline orchestration

  • Experience with Azure data services and Databricks

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex data issues quickly

Data Governance & Analysis

  • Advanced knowledge of data governance practices, standards, and compliance frameworks

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret both high-level patterns and granular datasets

  • Experience implementing data quality controls and reconciliation processes

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Data Science, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field preferred (equivalent experience accepted)

  • Master’s degree or certifications such as CDMP or DGSP are a plus

This position is structured as a contract-to-hire opportunity, with contract-only arrangements also considered. Upon conversion to full-time employment, the salary range is $150,000–$160,000 annually (approximately $70–$80 per hour equivalent). Contract compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and market seniority.
