Job Description
The role:
Curri is seeking candidates for a Claims Specialist to join our Legal and Compliance Department. This role reports to the Manager, Operational Risk & Insurance and is fully remote or can be based at Curri HQ in Ventura, CA.
The Claims Specialist plays a key role in administering transportation-related claims from initial notice through resolution. This position is responsible for investigating incidents submitted by both internal and external stakeholders while ensuring timely, accurate, and fair outcomes. The role requires regular interaction with peers, customers, carrier owners, drivers, and third parties to gather information and communicate claim status. A strong focus is placed on mitigating claim expenses through proactive investigation while adhering to company policies and expectations. Key metrics that will form the basis for evaluating performance in this role will be based on customer experience and satisfaction and the financial value of claims that are mitigated or recovered. The Claims Specialist also supports continuous improvement efforts by identifying trends and opportunities to reduce future losses.
What you will do:
Receive, review, and investigate all incidents reported to the department including cargo damage or loss, third party property damage or loss, driver vehicle damage, paint spills, or driver injury.
Gather necessary statements, documentation, and evidence from customers, drivers, and third parties to determine next steps and the appropriate outcome for all parties involved.
Evaluate coverage, determine liability, and recommend appropriate claim resolutions.
Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and internal stakeholders regarding claim status and outcomes.
Control claim costs by verifying documentation, identifying opportunities to recover claim expenses, and submitting claims to insurance carriers whenever possible.
Maintain up-to-date and organized claim files in accordance with established processes to ensure accurate reporting.
Assist department with enrollment and maintenance of Curri’s Loss Waiver Program designed to offset claim related losses.
Support department projects and initiatives as needed.
What you need to have:
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple claims simultaneously while meeting deadlines
High attention to detail and sound judgment when reviewing facts, documentation, and claim details
Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to professionally de-escalate hostile or high-stress situations with customers and drivers
Comfort communicating frequently with customers during sensitive or complex claim scenarios
Ability to work cross-functionally and understand how claims impact broader transportation and operations teams
Working knowledge of the transportation industry, including cargo handling and logistics processes (strongly preferred)
