Title:  Senior Hydrodynamics and Coastal Modeler

Location:  Remote

Job Type:  Regular Full-time

 



What’s the Opportunity?

Anchor QEA is seeking a technical subject matter expert with at least 10 years of experience in hydrodynamic modeling, including 3D applications in coastal settings. The position can be filled remotely or hybrid with one of our offices. The successful candidate will have complementary experience in related modeling disciplines, including sediment transport, reservoir and riverine hydraulics, waves, salinity, temperature, and mixing zones. This position will include leadership roles in remediation, restoration, and resilience projects, including contaminated sediments, water quality, and desalination brine and thermal discharges. The individual will play a pivotal role in expanding and leading our modeling practice, contributing to the growth and success of Anchor QEA's environmental and restoration services. Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of this position will include the following

  • Lead and provide technical oversight of hydrodynamic modeling projects
  • Serve a key role in projects that utilize hydrodynamic modeling, including those involving sediment transport, reservoir and riverine hydraulics, waves, salinity, temperature, and mixing zones
  • Function as technical lead, senior reviewer, quality assurance/quality control reviewer, or project manager/director (as needed).
  • Mentor junior staff, including delegation of work tasks and associated QA/QC
  • Provide technical strategic vision for our modeling-focused scientists and engineers
  • Support business development by being recognized as a technical subject matter expert both inside and outside of Anchor QEA through presenting at conferences, publishing articles in peer-reviewed literature, and creating state-of-the-science modeling applications.

 

What Are We Looking For?

Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • S. or higher degree in relevant sciences, engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of professional experience in consulting, industry, or governmental agencies
  • Proficiency with hydrodynamic and mixing models such as Delft3D, EFDC, MIKE 3, Flow3D, CE-QUAL-W2, CORMIX, Visual Plumes, and similar
  • Experience modeling 1D, 2D, and 3D hydrodynamics, hydraulics, sediment transport, waves, salinity, and temperature, including linking hydrodynamic models to water quality models
  • Expertise with near field mixing zone models, particularly in support of wastewater, brine, and thermal discharge permitting
  • Demonstrated ability using models to support scientific investigations, engineering design, and permitting for remediation, restoration, and resilience projects
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with external reviewers
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Creates a culture of support, mentorship, engagement, and collaboration for teams they lead
  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and values within and outside the organization.
  • Expertise demonstrated by presentations, publications, awards, expert testimony, teaching, or other leadership roles
  • Participation in professional organizations such as CERF, ASCE, AGU, or ASBPA
