Job Description
Role Description
The Global Repository of Income Dynamics (GRID) Project is hiring a full-time project manager to start in Spring 2026, working under the direction of Fatih Guvenen, Luigi Pistaferri, and Gianluca Violante.
The aim of the GRID Project is to assemble an open-access international database that provides a large collection of micro statistics on income inequality and income dynamics at the individual level. All statistics in the database are computed from administrative records on earnings histories for each country and harmonized to ensure cross-country comparability. Currently, the Project includes 20+ countries, with further expansions planned over the coming years. Country-specific studies from the first phase of the GRID project have been published in a special issue of Quantitative Economics.
GRID data are being used by students, journalists, policy makers, and researchers studying distributional outcomes, inequality trends, economic mobility, and public policy.
The position involves a broad range of tasks that provide strong preparation for graduate school or research-oriented industry positions, including:
- Data analysis
- Development of statistical tools
- Creation of presentations
- Editing of research papers
- Drafting of briefings
- Potentially co-authoring research with the project directors
The program is an ideal bridge between college and graduate school for students interested in applied economics. Salary and benefits are competitive with other top predoctoral positions.
The employee will work remotely. The position will begin in April 2026 and will last for a year.
Qualifications
- Completed a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree
- Strong quantitative skills
- Experience with coding and empirical research methods
- Strong interest in—and some exposure to—Economics
Requirements
- Prior research experience is strongly preferred
- Programming experience in Stata, SAS, R, and/or Python
- Selected candidates will be interviewed remotely for the position
Benefits
