Job Description:
The Supplier Quality Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of components and materials procured from external suppliers for aerospace manufacturing. This role involves collaborating with suppliers to establish and maintain quality standards, conducting thorough assessments and Special Process audits, implementing quality control processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and safety. Knowledge of Special Processing in multiple commodities required or a combination of e.g. but not limited to Heat Treating, Metal Joining, Coatings, Chemical Processing, Non-conventional Machining.
Essential Functions:
1. Supplier Assessment and Qualification
- Evaluate new and existing suppliers' capabilities, quality management systems, and adherence to corporate aerospace and or industry standard regulations to special processing requirements.
- Conduct comprehensive supplier audits and assessments to verify compliance with quality requirements and specifications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to qualify new suppliers and ensure they meet the stringent quality standards of the aerospace industry.
2. Quality Assurance and Control
- Develop and implement quality control audit criteria, and execute supplier special processing audits to support product acceptance for incoming materials, components, and assemblies.
- Perform thorough special process reviews and evaluations ensure compliance with aerospace processing specifications and standards.
- Detect Special Processing audit check lists, log findings / discrepancies, coordinate effective Corrective and Preventative actions to closure in a timely manner. Monitor supplier performance through regular evaluations, statistical analysis, and root cause analysis of non-conformances for potential affects to special processing.
3. Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for special process audit improvements within the supply chain to enhance product quality, reduce costs, and increase efficiency.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional teams to drive quality improvement projects and initiatives, leveraging tools such as Six Sigma and Lean methodologies.
- Analyze quality data, trends, and metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions to drive continuous quality improvement.
- Provide training and support to suppliers on special process qualifications and approval, including internal AR methods process specifications, and or industry standards.
4. Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure that suppliers comply with all relevant aerospace regulations, standards, and customer requirements, may include AS9100, and or NADCAP.
- Stay informed about AR methods processing specification changes and industry standard updates affecting supplier quality management, ensuring timely implementation of necessary changes.
- Support AR compliance audits and inspections by providing documentation, evidence of compliance, and assistance during AR Customer or AS9100 3rd party Registrar audits.
- Travel may require in excess of 60% time away from remote office as assigned.
- Become fluent with AR operating systems command media procedure, standard work as applied for Supply Chain Management.
- Become fluent with multiple data base management systems for supplier continuity, and process related metrics.
- Comply with time accounting directives and policy as a direct reporting employee.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant quality experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related quality experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related quality experience.
- Possess a valid state issued driver’s license
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Strong problem solving, RCCA and investigation experience.
- Certified Quality Auditor strongly preferred and or Lead Auditor accreditation.
- Prior Special Processing auditing experience
- Experience with Nadcap eAuditNet and/or OASIS as applicable.
- Fluent with MS Office Suite Software.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to synthesize and analyze data from several sources and develop a plan to take action based upon the data.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a close-knit team environment.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado State, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Vermont and New York State is $84,000-$156,000. For California, Seattle, Washington D.C., Maryland Greater Washington D.C. area, the city of Denver, Washington State and New York City, the salary range for this role is $96,000 - $178,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
