Position Overview
We are currently seeking a Licensed Heating Contractor to serve as a part-time Instructor/Subject Matter Expert (SME) for our NC Heating Contractor (Groups I, II, III) exam prep program. The purpose of this position is to teach and assist in the preparation of pre-licensing curriculum, with specific focus on both the Business and Law examination and the Trade examination components of the North Carolina Heating Contractor license (Groups I, II, III).
This individual will lead online exam preparation classes to help students prepare for and pass their North Carolina State Contractors Licensing exams. They will provide expert guidance on critical exam topics including project management, Heating codes and standards, safety requirements, and North Carolina construction law. They may occasionally be asked to assist with updating course content as needed. Other responsibilities may include scripting and filming instructional video content to enhance the online student experience and developing practice questions that mirror the actual exam format.

• Implement teaching strategies that will assist the student in meeting established course objectives.
• Mentor students and mitigate potential performance issues.
• Assist with creation and updating/maintaining course content when needed. Examples of course content can include but is not limited to:
- Creation of visual collateral material for live instruction
- Recording videos for asynchronous online learners
- Reviewing all highlighting guides and database practice exam questions for accuracy, as needed.
• Ability to instruct remote (Zoom) classes in North Carolina Heating Contractor Trade Exam Prep and Business & Law exam prep, as needed
• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of both the Business & Law and Trade components of the North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating, and Fire Sprinkler Contractors examination
• Provide detailed instruction on key exam topics including:
- North Carolina Code requirements for Heating Contractors (Groups I, II, III)
- Construction safety regulations and OSHA requirements
- Heating related math calculations
- Contract requirements and business law
- Other Heating trade-specific knowledge
• Create and review practice questions that align with current exam content
• Stay current with North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating, and Fire Sprinkler Contractors exam updates and requirements
• Provide practical insights and exam-taking strategies based on personal experience
• Develop and maintain study materials that address common exam challenges
• Guide students through practice exercises and mock exams
• Maintain knowledge of current construction practices, codes, and regulations
• Prior experience preferred teaching pre-license courses in construction-related trades or professional education.
• Current license as a Heating Contractor in the State of North Carolina.
