The Senior Director, Global Responsible Sourcing & Supply Chain Sustainability leads the execution and continuous improvement of global responsible sourcing and supply chain sustainability programs. Reporting to the Chief Sustainability Officer, this leader ensures environmental, labor, human rights, chemical management, and occupational health & safety standards are embedded across sourcing operations to mitigate risk, protect brand reputation, and support enterprise sustainability commitments.

Key Responsibilities (* Essential Duty)
- Responsible Sourcing Program Leadership (35%)*
- Lead environmental and social compliance programs across the global supply chain. Oversee supplier risk assessment, monitoring, corrective action, and remediation processes. Ensure alignment between sustainability programs and sourcing operations.
- Operational Integration & Cross-Functional Alignment (20%)*
- Partner with Supply Chain and Product Development & Sourcing to embed responsible sourcing standards into business processes and supplier scorecards. Establish accountability across functions.
- Strategy & Program Development (15%)*
- Translate enterprise sustainability goals into actionable supply chain programs and roadmaps. Continuously improve program design based on emerging risks and industry best practices.
- External Engagement & Industry Collaboration (10%)
- Represent the company in relevant industry sustainability initiatives and build relationships with NGOs, governments, trade unions, and service providers.
- Team Leadership & Development (15%)*
- Lead, coach, and develop a global team. Drive performance management, succession planning, and high employee engagement. Proxy for the CSO in some cases.
- Disclosures, Reporting & Executive Support (5%)
- Provide insights and data to support disclosures and executive reporting. Ensure data integrity and audit readiness.
About You
Minimum Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, Supply Chain, Business or related field.
- Master's preferred.
Years and Type of Experience Required:
- 15-20+ years of experience in global responsible sourcing, ESG, environmental and social compliance, risk management, and supply chain sustainability leadership. Experience managing complex global systems and cross-cultural teams required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Strong leadership and global program management capability.
- Deep knowledge of environmental management systems, labor standards, and human rights due diligence.
- Regulatory and compliance expertise.
- Strong negotiation, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
- Data-driven mindset with systems orientation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel internationally.
Complexity and Accountability:
- Responsible for global program consistency, risk mitigation systems, regulatory readiness, and accurate ESG reporting inputs.
- Operates within a complex, matrixed organization balancing sustainability goals with business performance priorities.
Key Partners & Interaction:
- Internal: Sustainability, Supply Chain, Product Development & Sourcing, Commercial Operations, Legal, Finance, HR, Communications.
- External: Suppliers, NGOs, Industry Associations, Government Officials, Trade Unions, Service Providers.
Scope:
- Global responsibility across all sourcing regions and supplier tiers.
Additional Information:
- This is a critical role to maintain compliance, mitigate enterprise risk, and protect corporate reputation through effective responsible sourcing governance.
This is a hybrid position based in our San Francisco, CA headquarters. You will be expected in office 3 days per week typically Tuesday-Thursday. Note, time in office can vary depending on business needs.
The expected starting salary range for this role is $245,000-$267,000 per year. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on the location of the role. The amount a particular employee will earn within the salary range will be based on factors such as relevant education, qualifications, performance and business needs.
