Job Description

Role Description

We’re looking for a hands-on Power BI Consultant to design, model, and deliver high-performance BI solutions. You will translate business requirements into robust semantic models, efficient DAX measures, and impactful dashboards, while ensuring governance, performance, and security in Power BI Service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage stakeholders to capture requirements and convert them into BI specifications and data models.
  • Design star/snowflake models with conformed dimensions and surrogate keys.
  • Build optimized DAX (time intelligence, iterator patterns, context transition) and reusable calculation logic.
  • Develop ETL/ELT using Power Query (M), Dataflows, and SQL; implement incremental refresh and partitions.
  • Choose and justify Import vs. DirectQuery vs. Composite based on latency, volume, and SLA.
  • Publish and manage content in Power BI Service (Workspaces, Apps, Dataflows, Gateways, Deployment Pipelines).
  • Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) / Object-Level Security (OLS) and workspace governance.
  • Optimize models and reports (cardinality reduction, aggregations, query folding, Performance Analyzer, DAX Studio).
  • Create executive and operational dashboards with drill-through, tooltips, bookmarks, and KPI storytelling.
  • Partner with data engineering (SQL/Azure/Fabric) on pipelines, Lakehouse/Warehouse, and data quality.
  • Maintain documentation: data dictionary, lineage, refresh SLAs, and runbooks.
  • Support production, monitor refreshes/capacity, and drive continuous improvement and user enablement.

Qualifications

  • 3–6+ years building end-to-end Power BI solutions (modeling, DAX, visuals, deployment).
  • Strong SQL (CTEs, window functions, query tuning).
  • Advanced DAX (CALCULATE, filter context, iterators, time intelligence).
  • Solid Power Query (M) with understanding of query folding.
  • Proven experience with RLS/OLS, incremental refresh, DirectQuery/Composite models.
  • Proficiency with Power BI Service (Workspaces, Apps, Dataflows, Gateways, Deployment Pipelines).
  • Performance tuning using Performance Analyzer and DAX Studio / VertiPaq Analyzer.
  • Clear communication and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to Have

  • Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflows Gen2) or Azure (Synapse, Data Lake, Databricks, ADF).
  • Tabular modeling tools (Tabular Editor, TOM/TMSL, calculation groups).
  • CI/CD for BI (Git, Azure DevOps, Deployment Pipelines).
  • Python/R for analytics; Power Automate integration.
  • Certification: PL-300 (or equivalent).
